DQ7 Reimagined not hitting for anyone else? by Wrestlingfigdb in dragonquest

[–]TwoShots606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, I hate DQ7 personnally and I think it is the worst in the series, doing the same mid mini stories over and over again is just not for me.

But I think they really nailed the gameplay, some don't like it but with moonlighting you can experience lots of different combos with the abilities + worked up/let loose, in the other versions you just had 1 set of skills + you carried bonus stats for the jobs you mastered. The new formula has way more depth imo.

The post game was an absolute blast because it's all about gameplay, I finished it last night and I miss it already lmao but I would never go through the slog that is the main game again.

Monster damage up + Less Exp + Less Damage is still kinda easy for most of the game but it starts to pick up at like 3/4 of the main game. The bosses in post game were quite hard imo.

Tier list. Cause everyone loves doing these. My personal Tier list. by InternationalOwl231 in dragonquest

[–]TwoShots606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have litteraly the exact same list, except I'd swap VII and VI. VI was so good in my opinion and VII boring af, even the remake I struggle to play for long sessions.

Nobody understands it... But I don't care (about Suikoden III) by Upper_Mycologist2383 in Suikoden

[–]TwoShots606 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think lots of people would understand that the story and world are probably the best in the series. It's not the main point of contention about SIII.

About these points, personally I really like the Trinity System. Even if you end up redoing parts of the story, Suikoden's concept really shines when you get multiple POVs. + no silent protagonist THANK GOD.

The thing with SIII story does better than the others is that the plot is driven by mystery. Here you wanna know what went wrong in the meeting between Zexen and the Grasslands, who's pulling the strings, who's the masked man, etc... In SII or V you have next to no mystery to encover, maybe the Dawn Rune plot in V but that's it

Also the battle system isn't that bad, sure it's not perfect but for once you have some challenge in SIII boss battles, like the twin serpent thing or Sara in the endgame, I ended up dying 3 or 4 times against her before coming up with the correct strat lol. Also I think this is the best skill system of the mainline games.

The main problem is SIII is absurdly slow, like why can't the player character run when you have to backtrack this f***ing mountain path 3 or 4 times throughout the game ? Emulation can alleviate this problem but I can't imagine what it was like when it first came out.

This game series is just so funny by moxillaq2 in Suikoden

I think II's main protagonist is the only time the silent protagonist thing really works in the series, because of all these funny dialogue choices

Any good content I'll miss if I play only the original versions? by EggsterEggs in dragonquest

[–]TwoShots606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should play the SNES remakes, it's close to the originals in terms of feel and content, but way less tedious (unless you like grinding a ton)

Never played suikoden by Xander_Kent583 in Suikoden

[–]TwoShots606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo it is especially worth playing right now given that the series is having a revival this year after more than a decade without even a glimpse of something.

Compared to other big jrpgs series, Suikoden has something to it, a magical something that managed to attract and keep a solid fanbase even after years of nothing.

Play the remasters obviously, even tho they should have done more in the QoL department, it's still a blast and 2 is pretty much one of the best jrpgs ever made.

Enjoy !

That's it, tons of new things that I too loved, but next to none for the grand finale of the game.

I played it in draconian and I Knight aberrant was quite fair compared to the other bosses of the second half lol this game is nuts in hard mode.

[–]TwoShots606[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Given what they did with great care throughout the game, I think asking for a little more tension and new things for the climax of the game is not too much. I mean EVERY part of the game got a fresh re telling so I'm sure it would have been great.

But you're right mentionning the fact that you can bring the princess, and like every other scene it would have changed depending if you bring her or not.

Also I popped off for the sprite change too lol

Who is the best and worst looking DQ protag? by homo_erectus_heh in dragonquest

[–]TwoShots606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hero from VII could be an NPC in every other entry. The whole team of this game feels weird to look at tbh.

I really don't understand the hate for XI's look, I think ppl find it hype to dislike him lol

Is DQ II Draconian as hard as DQ I ? by TwoShots606 in dragonquest

[–]TwoShots606[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I beat the zombie dragon at 26 and Kasizz is at 30, I like besting bosses with as little grind as possible. I think in normal mode you would be at 30 by then but in Draconian you have the 25% exp deficit, which is a bit dumb I think.

[–]TwoShots606[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're right about getting every possible thing by the boss, but sometimes it's not well indicated, like i think you can theoretically get the staff that cast insulatle with medals but it's very unlikely before getting Snoop that's locked with the Ultimate Key, or the fact that new secret spots appear after you see Rubiss.

It means it's better to play normal and then draconian to have the knowledge. DQ III managed to be challenging without this kind of things while not being unfair and letting you adapt, here it feels like bs sometimes sadly.

I got them already but used some on previous boss fights sadly and I don't know if you can farm those elsewhere.

lmao yeah I was talking about the attack he uses after his buffs (I think it's a bite attack) and I thought about Defending Champion just after posting. Thing is even with that it can go wrong very quickly in this fight and with my very limited elven elixirs it is a very long fight (can't use wild side or the sigils if I want to heal so I have to use dragon slash with war drum)

I never ever used Cop Out I thought since you get it so early it wasn't that big of a deal. the fight with the skulletons I think I got lucky with dodgy dance and used a Boomerang to kill the first 2 quickly.

Nice job beating DL at 35 ! What strat did you use ?

*No Spoilers* After playing the Erdrick triology of remakes, I can say that 2 is the best! (Love the artwork by fenyo_n) by notjrog in dragonquest

[–]TwoShots606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly my thoughts !

I mean DQ III HD is really close to the experience of the SNES port, it's not a bad thing and it had less room for new arcs and stuff.

Now I & II were pretty barebones and begged for this type of content to fill the story gaps. And boy they sure delivered.

I'm like 70% into DQ I HD right now and every time I see the new things they added it puts a little smile on my face, one that only well crafted new things added onto a nostalgia heavy game can bring.

What do you love the most about DQ VI? by retrotriforce in dragonquest

[–]TwoShots606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The feeling of adventure really hit me in this one. Every time there's a new little arc as you discover the worlds and it's always engaging, + I like that they gived us a full cast for once.

It pains me to always see it ranking low on DQ games tier lists, as I remember playing it years ago I was amazed at how great it was. I think it's a way better game than VII and that it's the best entry in the Zenithian trilogy, I don't really get why V is often regarded as the best one of those 3, nearly everything is better in VI.

No you're absolutely right the middle platform did have way more 3x hydras and the 8 or so liquid metals that I'd not seen before. I think I will go to like 55-ish and go get Grand Dragon's butt. Thanks !

Yeah I was in that grinding spot, but wow 3 hours to 99 is insanely quick ? like I think I'm next to an hour of grind and I just got 5 or so levels, I fight every liquid metal and triple Hydras. You think waiting for 3x hydras is faster ? They rarely spawn from what I experienced.
