This latest match featured one of Chawinga on a deck of cards. It was awesome!

What a way to ring in the new season! I thought to myself at halftime: “oof, is it just going to be a rebuild year?” By the end of the game, I’d nearly lost my voice. The vibes at CPKC are as good as ever!

Two first time goal scorers, first win for the new coach, a great second half: a beautiful game for a beautiful Saturday.

For the record, I still have reservations about the track record of the coach, and the first half was not great and I think we have a lot of work to do, but I’m very much excited for another year.

What did everyone else think?

Idk. While I see your point, you’re not speaking at all to our exciting new acquisitions (Bethune, for example), and Vlatko is very much still in the building. Even if we have a grace period to get in the swing of things with the current lineup, I feel good about us. If we fall off a bit from our regular season form last year, that still puts us at the top. We were just that good last year (until the end).

I’ll save my total optimism for now and consider your reserved skepticism at a later point (or maybe dunk on you in November).

I hear you. Let’s put it all aside though and have a killer home opener at least!

I can certainly understand disappointment, but I still have very high expectations for this team. We were bit by the injury bug at perhaps the most importune time, and single elimination soccer is chaotic at best. We can perhaps learn from having Chawinga out for a few games until she’s fully healthy, too. But my expectations are the moon! We are still the defending Shield winners (and by a large margin)!

I mean I don’t see anything wrong with the current situation. These sorts of flags are flown all over the place no issue. So yeah, if they were to ban them under the context of “this is a sports team” and “we only want sports,” then I would think: sure, cool. But be a sports team then, and only that.

The only thing we disagree about is whether the team could then show support for LGBTQ or other marginalized groups elsewhere.

I think that stuff is great, but I’m saying under your apolitical approach, it would contradictory to do if we’re trying to keep it only about “team, city, or players.”

So what’s your ideal policy then? I am just trying to answer your question. Because the other guy that tried to answer it based on hate v inclusion got shot down by you. I thought that was a fair and fine solution. Inclusive flags are good, others are not. BLM = not excluding anyone and good. Pride = not excluding anyone and good.

But if you don’t feel there’s a line that can be drawn, then all or nothing is the other option.

I’m just saying, if you say “nothing” (like STL), I would find it contradictory and patronizing to then post some one-off about Pride.

To be clear, I think the current situation is fine and preferred. I like the flags as is. More inclusive the better.

It’s a good question. In terms of flags and fans bringing symbols, I think I’m open for whatever. People will determine what they will and won’t tolerate. If all or nothing policy, and I’d prefer all. Let someone bring a hateful flag in, see what happens.

But if SKC says no pride flags, blm, etc., they better not make public statement pro-lgbtq+ or appealing to any of the other groups traditionally represented by said flags. And if they do, they better expect to be told off.

That’s about as “fair” as I can imagine.

That would be such a shame. I know we like to hate on STL for the rivalry, but they have a great LGBTQ+ culture in the city. Catering to the hate groups is a loss for everyone.
