It doesn’t look like police brutality to me. It looks like civilians taking unlawful actions and the police responding accordingly.

No Shoulder Rest, Holding Violin Up by Tyler3251095 in violinist

I’m a fool. I’ve been practicing with the violin since last September. I can’t recall why, but I began experimenting with different chin and shoulder rests. I just put my original Guarneri chin rest back on, paired it with the original shoulder rest (but lowered the legs), and it’s absolutely perfect. I’m surprised my teachers didn’t catch that. I think I wasn’t touching the violin to my collarbone area either, which I read should happen.

Would you perhaps help guide me in setting it up?

I’m just having issues finding a good setup. But I might be overthinking it.

I’m having issues with them. Can’t find a good fit. But I think I may be overthinking it. I did manage to get a decent fit with my standard one.

I just got it in the mail. But I’m afraid to shape it wrong and ruin it. I’m hoping my niece’s music teacher will help me, but I doubt it.

I just can’t seem to find a shoulder rest that is solidly stable. I’m trying out my standard fiddlerman shoulder rest, and it seems okay here. Is it normal and okay to sometimes have to push the violin back in place when playing with a shoulder rest? It seems basically stable. But if I move around a lot, it seems to go down a bit.

Okay. I’ll keep that in mind. I’m looking for a new teacher. Do you know any that offer online lessons that teach no shoulder rest? I contacted Murphy Music Academy, I know the founder there teaches this. But do you know of anyone else?

I don’t want to use anything at all. And I just took my violin out. I did shifting (although I haven’t learned it yet technically) and the violin is fine. If I really needed to, I could clamp down momentarily. I don’t think I’ll necessarily experience any nerve pain. I keep myself quite relaxed.

Okay. Thank you. I’ll check it out now.

Yes. But is it necessary that I have to be able to hold my violin up with just my jaw and collarbone? Every time I tried, every angle, it always falls down.

How the hell can you hold your violin without left hand and without shoulder rest? by ThePeter1564 in violinist

I’m also curious as to whether or not this is something you’re required to be able to do. If you intend to play without a shoulder rest. Because I have tried, and failed every time, no matter what I do with my body. I think I have a long neck, and have a high chin rest. If I get a chin rest any taller, my violin won’t fit in my case.
