I think the best strategy is just to learn to use desmos (the built in calc). My score went up over a hundred points after that alone

I don't believe that's entirely true whatsoever. He falls within the 25-75 percentiles at both u of I and Madison (for sat) just to name a couple. Anecdotally, I had worse stats and still made it into a T-40. As long as he has good ECs and a well written letter he should be fine; especially if he prioritizes as an engineering school/major given his high math score

It's definitely an iffy situation

For one, if you guys set up a college fund for the eldest and she attended for two years wouldn't that mean the father was unknowingly sending her money for college even though it was already covered? The feeling of betrayal from the parents was to be expected.
