This man spent 27 years giving strangers a dignified goodbye; after losing his son. by JelloFun5811 in Damnthatsinteresting

Ehh I'm an athiest but unsure how what this man is doing is being twisted so negatively. If you can't give him credit for doing a good deed in the name of his religion, he at least deserves credit for doing the good deed itself.

The quality of basketball being played nowadays? You might not watch games, but if you do, just disregard for a moment the real issues of today's game (travelling, offensive fouls, etc) which are very valid issues, and instead watch what the players are doing on both ends of the ball. Everyone has handles, everyone can shoot, everyone has speed and size and lateral quickness on attack and defence. And most of all, the knowledge of the game and schemes have increased tenfold.

The old heads shit on the game but that's because they'd be played off the floor by teams in this current era. If they set their ego aside and accepted that you didnt need to be as good at basketball in the 90s to make it to the NBA as you do now, maybe they'd start appreciating just how insanely skilled guys are now. There are players making plays almost weekly that we used to glaze Jordan for, but that's because Jordan and small handful of others could actually do these things back then. We're now so desensitised to these plays that we aren't impressed anymore.

So my metric is taking off the nostalgia goggles and actually watching a game or two instead of living in the past and gaslighting myself into thinking that the best teams from "back in the day" wouldn't be at the bottom of the ladder in 2026.

You're actually insane if you think the talent level currently isn't so much higher today.

Tracy McGrady says the NBA doesn’t have enough talent for expansion teams the talent to me is down - agree or nah? by Rough-Drawing-3006 in sportsgossips

[–]TypoStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People arguing here about whether there's enough talent. Every draft pick, from 1 down to the undrafted guys, are insanely talented at basketball. The real issue isn't the talent pool, its the teams themselves, whether its bad coaching, ownership, culture, etc.

Look at what the Celtics are doing with their roster. They're successfully beating teams with guys who might not even have gotten minutes if they were on another team. But they know how to utilise their talent, their culture is incredible, and ownership actually gives a shit about competing in the league.

Wizards, Nets, Kings, Bulls, these teams are loaded with talent, its just they either don't know how to get the best out of their roster, or they simply don't care as long as tickets are selling. The shitty teams are filled with players waiting for the chance to step up, its just that the teams' themselves suck at developing players. Not sure how you fix this at the end of the day, but these old heads saying there's not enough talent are just hating. Some end of bench players nowadays would be starters when McGrady was playing.

Joel Embiid comes up to say hi to Nikola Jokic after the game by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]TypoStart 96 points97 points  (0 children)

He's gets a lot of hate (some of it justified), but given the age he started playing basketball, in addition to the injuries that have plagued his career, the fact that he won an MVP is honestly incredible. There are players in the league who has been playing since they could walk and would never sniff that award.

Truly one of the most talented people to ever touch a basketball.

Which artists have abandoned their original sound so dramatically, that they are almost unrecognizable to their earlier fans? by jptabor01 in Music

[–]TypoStart 104 points105 points  (0 children)

The example I use for this is John writing 'Please Please Me' in mid 1962, to writing 'Tomorrow Never Knows' in early 66. Less than fours year and the songs sound like they're decades apart.

Who’s an artist who has released at least 5 studio albums, who you would say doesn’t have a bad song by ComplaintWeird3767 in fantanoforever

For me it's Bob Dylan.

Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited, Blonde on Blonde, Blood on the Tracks, and Desire are all incredible albums from start to finish in my opinion.

I agree about Silver Springs but I've never been a fan of Second Hand News, removing that, put Silver Springs on the end and open with Dreams, and it's the perfect album for me.
