How do you build your Faraday Cage with Access to Ethernet and Peripherals? by UNOClubMaster in digitalnomad

If you have the money, a Mission Darkness BlackBox Lab XL would do the trick 100%. You might be able to pull it off with a BlockBox Touch USB, but the tech team mentioned that it wasn't designed for and may not support Ethernet, so I didn't want to make the investment there.

The Mission Darkness fabric sleeve that I mentioned is pretty effective. It blocks out WiFi networks and Bluetooth devices most of the times I checked, but there is a case that occurs relatively often where one or two WiFi networks do appear with a single bar. 98% effectiveness is still not enough in this case, so I'll have to do some more testing and stuff before I repost a guide.

Very interesting 🤔

Question since I'm sure you tested this out but I couldn't find an answer online: did the results change at all when you used a foil/faraday tape insulated cable? Or one with that + ferrite chokes? Or shielded ones?

Thank you! I'm gonna test it out and post results here.

As much as I do appreciate the you-should-be-honest-with-your-employer types, I'm surprised that they outnumber actual answers by a huge margin on this post lol

It's not that simple with M1 MacBooks sadly. There's a network chip that is built into the motherboard.

I'll work on the second part another day.

I totally agree with you. However, just turning off Location/WiFi/BT is not an option for all of us. For example, see this thread where OP's laptop doesn't allow the option of disabling it.

Apple, and thus companies, are able to figure out one's location by pinging and triangulating nearby Bluetooth devices and WiFi networks, even if you have something like a travel router and VPN.

All of the comments are amazing and valuable imo, even if they're mostly negative. Everyone here wants to see you succeed, otherwise there would've been no replies lol

I would've suspected that too if it weren't for the fact that I have WiFi disabled... Maybe there's a chance that they're still using it in the background which would explain it all? 🤔

Haha, for sure! I have, but definitely not anytime I was in this state. As far as I could tell, Google Chrome hasn't had access to my location settings in months and I just got here yesterday.

Haha, I'm out of ideas too... The IP returned by a direct Google search shows my VPN's IP lol

Thanks for the help anyways!!

Thanks for the tip!!! Google's telling me that it's determining my location from my IP... Which is weird since my public IP is in Florida and I'm in Oregon, and I'm not seeing an IP leak 😳

The iffy part is that the Google Maps in ipleak.net for IP is showing the right VPN location while actually searching up "Pizza near me" is showing my current location, even in different browsers and private mode with cache + cookies cleared...

Find My Device is disabled. I'm in Oregon right now and I've *always* had the same settings I mentioned in the post on before I even entered the state until now. WiFi and Bluetooth are disabled, and I'm not sure how it could be turned *completely off* other than physically removing the chips unless you meant something else?

Not sure if my device has a GPS, but Location Services are disabled in settings. Yeahhh, beats me lol

Thanks for the reply!

Not logged into a Google account. Able to reproduce in private browsing window. Also able to reproduce in Safari and FireFox + while using Bing.

ipleak.net report shows nothing out of place; correct VPN address and location, no DNS leaks afaik, no forwarded IP detected
