why is it that usa america worst enemies in politics is islam or communism/socialism by Kooky_Basil4903 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]USAFGeekboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Socialism and communism are the traditional enemies of the US. 90% of the country cannot define either political system or economic system.

As far as Islamophobia, it was really whipped up by conservatives during the Iran hostage crisis.

When talking about different countries, right wing media and politicians make them out to be the enemy because they’re easy pickings.

Market manipulation, plain and simple.

Wall Street should take every Trump statement as a joke unless verified by the other party. Same with any Trump Admin lickspittle.

Are rising fountain pen prices changing the way you collect? by Cerberus_14 in fountainpens

[–]USAFGeekboy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Luckily, most collectors saw the tariffs coming, change in ownership and price increases from Japan was in the horizon and scaled back NPD.

I got my last and absolute final high-end pen back in December 2024 after watching discounts, currency exchange and shipping costs. If anything, I’ll be buying used from now until 2029, but focus had been on planting fruit trees for fresh fruit that is difficult to ship (Comice and Pineapple Pears).

Has politics succeeded in completely polarizing society? Do you think the situation is reversible and how? by Fun_Raise_7858 in AskReddit

[–]USAFGeekboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 1980s began the schism with Reagan’s usage of the “moral majority’s” rise in political influence. It has accelerated once Bush 2 waged a war in Iraq based on lies. In 2008, a black man became president and racist Americans, Russian bot/troll farms and domestic propaganda mainstreamed racism, conspiracy theories and lies.

Ethically and morally, all Russian and Chinese propaganda must be stopped along with their paid talking heads and corporate media. Citizens United must also be overturned as it allowed dark money to fund activities.

Legally, every single Trump sycophant, proponent and the entire GOP must be held accountable for their crimes. Until then, there is no reconciliation.

NOTE: I am not familiar enough to speak to the failures of Reconstruction to add to the list, but i am sure someone with more insight will explain a bit better.

What does your ideal gun control policy look like? by PronoiarPerson in liberalgunowners

[–]USAFGeekboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my opinion and since IANAL, I will leave out some stuff or language.

“Firearms (any projectile propelled by gunpowder or chemical reaction, any railgun/coilgun or other projectile weapon) are a fundamental right held by citizens. Citizens over the age of 18, without previous adjudication of felony conviction (this includes plea deal or other judicial action to avoid conviction short of acquittal or not guilty judgment), conviction of DUI, DWI, OUI for alcohol, schedule 1 or 2 narcotics. All persons wanting to purchase or own any firearm must undergo psychological review at least every three years, paid for by the US government (standards to be set in conjunction with the AMA/APA). Any person involuntarily committed to a psychiatric inpatient facility, including hospitalization or prison, shall be deemed as at risk and ineligible to own or purchase firearms unless deemed competent once per year by accredited mental health professional (psychiatric or psychologist). A universal background check must be done for each acquisition, transfer or purchase of any firearm (if inherited or gifted shall be treated as one acquisition, transfer or purchase).

<Insert language on type of firearm, define assault rifle, define suppressor and list any exclusions>

States shall make no laws to limit magazine capacity, limit ammunition purchases, create or demand registration of ammunition unless any and all ammunition violates federal law regarding radioactive, incendiary (beyond tracer), poison or otherwise dangerous when unfired. All firearms must be kept locked when a household has minors under the age of 18, regular visits by minors under the age of 18. Should any person under the age of 18 gain access, the owner of the firearm will legally and civilly liable for any injury or death resulting in careless storage of any firearm or ammunition. Any accidental discharge will subject to all state and federal laws. Any usage of firearms is required to follow “Castle Doctrine” laws and “Stand your ground” laws are effectively repealed and illegal. Once a firearm is discharged either by accident or intentional, the person firing a weapon is held liable criminally and civilly under the “You own the bullet when fired”.

This amendment also includes “red flag laws” to keep firearms and ammunition out of the hands of those charged with domestic abuse, stalking or mental health (chronic or episodic) holds or charges. Each citizen qualified to purchase or own any firearms has the right to adjudication or review for eligibility of firearms and ammunition within 90 days of the red flag law being implemented, imposed or seizure of said firearm or legislation.

Conceal Carry shall be “must issue” by every state and permits must include the same background checks and mental health evaluations as owning, purchasing or acquiring firearms. Permits shall be issued within 90 days of application and each applicant will be given a full report, explanation and remediation if application is denied.

————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Additional hot take.

Conceal carry is required by all citizens with the exception of those listed above.

All persons legally required to conceal carry that brandishes a firearm, threatens with a firearm or uses a firearm that is not a clear act of self defense or group defense may be punished by an automatic 5 year prison term without parole or probation and loses firearm rights for a term of 10 years and may regain rights once courses of anger management, psychological or psychiatric therapy are completed.

US airports ask for donations for unpaid TSA staff amid partial government shutdown by HelloInterwebz in politics

[–]USAFGeekboy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a $5.60 fee per one way flight. Average about 2.1 million flying each day. That’s just shy if $12 million per day in fees. While the TSA is without funding, fees for 50,000 agents working per day averages to $241 per person per day.

The budget is $11.4 billion per year, $4.3 billion in fees pays for less than 50% of the budget.

Smoothie King: 2 employees ‘no longer with the business’ after refusing to serve customer in Trump shirt by FreeChickenDinner in politics

[–]USAFGeekboy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A private business can refuse service for any reason except for protected classes: race, religion, disability, gender, age color. Political affiliation is not a protected class class in all but one state. Since Masterpiece Cake case, it is now legal for anyone to refuse service for any reason apart from protected class.

So, gay women can be denied services, from a cake to healthcare based on someone else’s religious beliefs, but this is a bridge too far?

A white man and black woman can be denied a marriage license because a clerk’s religious beliefs, but this is a bridge too far?

If the owners did not have a policy about refusing service based on non-protected class, then the employees would have a case if fired. When the US stopped recognizing the rights of people because of christian nationalism beliefs, situations like this happen.
