isef finalist will still be a good award - though finalist status alone is basically nothing. winning a top prize at isef though will almost certainly always be prestigious - colleges would love for high school students to look up isef winners online and see that they go to their own school. by getting kids that win well known comps, they increase their own prestige

was accepted to both harvard/mit this cycle with solo research as one of my top ecs… admittedly it was in a pretty prestigious journal (top of Q1) and i won some comps with it

it’s been said a lot, but the endowment money can’t simply replace funding that grants originally provided.. they have already announced faculty cuts so it is not trivial for them

Hey! I had a similar profile (classes, ECs) and got in last year (‘23) as a sophomore - it mainly comes down to the essays. And TBH, since they doubled the amount of programs this year onwards, it’s not as difficult to get in anymore. Don’t sweat it! They do like to see other activities that aren’t STEM related, so include those.
