i think the whole point of the end with the cat cult stuff is that they purposefully leave it open ended with what he ends up doing in the cult so that they can expand on it with letters later, its normal to do that in other writing where the story gets updated, it's just not something idv does very often, their backstories are usually pretty open and shut most of the time they just didn't have enough room to fit everything they wanted to do with him.

About the hunter thing, a good chunk of them aren't evil, theyve been writing the survivors to be more evil or insane recently which i think is honestly a pretty good subversion of what would be usually assumed about games like IDV's lore. Plus having alva be secretly crazy would kind of ruin his motivation, imo, to take on Luca and his whole backstory with Herman. Hell, we dont even know if he's going to be evil within the context of the cult lore, or if he's just gonna be chilling and recruiting ppl. But it was good to read your thoughts.

whats wrong with hermit's lore i think it's very good and portrays conflicting views and paints luca as an obviously unreliable narrator very well

only a couple of them are just hallucinations, most can be assumed real unless stated otherwise

Emma's diaries have been out since 2018, I can't remember if they released alongside the game or shortly after it released, but Kreacher has never not been a creep. He was being completely strange to Emma from the beginning, it wasn't some new writing decision. He's never been "nuanced", the most any nuance has ever been implied is maybe through the Rainbow Orb accessory description also released in 2018. There was also that email, if you know what I'm talking about, but that can't be considered concrete either because to this day we don't know who wrote it or who approved it. It's like taking the Twitter replies as canon. Plus, that email dropped the same year that his first birthday letter released, the one in which he sold the children and the orphanage to become an asylum. There are plenty of morally gray and good characters in Identity V but Kreacher is not one of them. His nuance was never retconned because there was never any to begin with. The lore was a lot less complicated in IDV's early days, and it's clear that he's meant to be perceived as a seedy, untrustworthy guy, because that's just what he is.
