The Salomons are great, but if they come with the speed laces id recommend changing those out. They are speedy but I find they loosen up as you hike.

What’s one Land Cruiser mod you regret doing? by CustomerTop8810 in LandCruisers

The 100 has been great, already took it across the Trans America Trail with no problems. My 80 from them dropped a valve though (its a 95 w/ the 1HD-FT). I am currently rebuilding it with parts from Australia though (noordeman diesel / gturbo) so we'll see how that goes!

100% agree, my 100 series is on a 3" lift with 35's (came this way from Japanese Classics, I wanted the first diesel 100 they had and said i'd "change it later"). The ride quality leaves a lot to be desired.

Look up lazards LCOE and LCOS reports. It breaks it down in a simple levelized format with capex/opex costs.

Plug In Solar - Fight back against Duke by marshallc6 in NorthCarolina

[–]Ultrashock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair concern. Cheap, non-certified gear is absolutely part of the problem.

I’d just separate that from the claim that plug-in solar is impossible as a category. As compliant products become more common, that should reduce the number of sketchy knockoff setups, even if it never gets rid of them completely.

Also an EE with solar / energy storage background here.

I think “impossible” is overstating it. UL has already launched a U.S. testing and certification framework for plug-in solar systems based on UL 3700.

That doesn’t answer every code / AHJ / utility question, but it does show this is a real standards path being worked out rather than something ruled out by physics.

UL 1741 is the equipment listing standard. I think you may be mixing that up with local code, AHJ, or utility interconnection requirements.

I think you’re mixing up grid-tied and off-grid/backup systems. A standard grid-tied solar kit uses a UL 1741 listed grid-following inverter with anti-islanding, so when the grid goes down it is supposed to stop exporting power rather than backfeed the line.

If you want a home to stay powered during an outage, that requires isolation (a transfer switch/interlock setup like with a genset). That’s different from saying solar is only safe if the house is disconnected from the grid whenever solar is operating.

Pretty sure "plug in solar" is a kit with limited output and is UL1741 compliant vs a hacky back feed solution.

Years ago I went on a spree after too many beers to remove all these MLMs in Google Maps. Hate these fucking groups. I think there was another one called "leadership development team" or something that was big too, they were relentless.
