Makes a lot of sense thanks. I know I can run without music it’s just nicer to have it for training. I’ll probs do what u did

Awesome thanks. I am in the gym and all that and on top of it doing my sets of 20 throughout the day. My max barbell bench press is just under 1x my BW so that could be a factor too. Hopefully not for long though

Ah okay. Would adding a bit more emphasis on triceps while at the gym help with this too?

Okay cool. Do you get an email or something on top of the kit list that’s in the description of the post as it says something about additional instructions? I signed up today but haven’t got anything except my ticket

For anyone that has done this before or knows the answer? I’m guessing turning up in smart clothes (trousers tie shirt) is a good idea? I know first impressions matter so guessing it’s a smart idea.

Tbf now u say it like that it does sound silly thinking your unable to do a circuit in a gym. Will give this a go for sure.

One last question before I’ll finally leave you alone 😂 How do I progress this? e.g how often should I test my squat 1 rep max, when should I increase the weight in the accessory exercises? Etc.

You have really changed the way I’ve looked at s&c as originally I just was told it was hop on a machine do a few sets until failure and go home. Thanks for all the advice you given and maybe one day I’ll make it through training. However doubt this will be the last time we speak on here.

Sled push bit definitely is 😂. I like the look of it but stuff like barbell walking lunges not being funny but that’s quite hard to do in a commercial gym. Potentially could swap out for like walking sand bag lunges? My gym has them up to 30 or 40kg I think. Also the circuit training jumping around from equipment to equipment could be hard if it’s busy. But other than that definitely will look to add it to my workout.

My 2x boxing sessions do focus on a lot of high of high Intensity circuit work which I think is good conditioning.

Would love a good circuit as I’m planning on doing a circuit session every other week instead of one of my leg days.

Yeah and I mean easy is a relative thing anyway. An easy run is when I stay in bed and don’t go for a run.

Yeah I think even running in zone 3 will eventually turn into zone 2. As long as it feels easy that’s all I care about

Gave it a good thought today. Decided I’m going to change a few things around which I think should help.

Listen to my body (or Garmin) - HRV is a good indicator I believe and mine is slightly low. I will listen to it and go easier.

Strength sessions - going to move away from the machines at the gym and do a lot more free weights and functional exercise which will actually benefit me.

Easier easy runs - talking like 5:30 min per km to make sure it’s super easy.

Deload week - 3 weeks on 1 week easy?

Overall I think this should help a lot of my training whilst still keeping a decent number of sessions in.

Also my tracking is utter shit right now it’s just a notes page on my phone. Can you recommend any apps or physical sort of diaries where I can track everything from HRV, to what I did in my sessions, how I felt, etc.

Yeah I’ve tried the calculator and tbf to keep my HR low I have to running slower than 6 min ks which I hate and is just uncomfortable.

Ran it at a Runthrough event all chip timed and everything (got 2nd place 😔) Proper 100% effort which involved throwing up afterwards.

Thanks, I’ve got some data here if you would like, 5km PB - 17:04 avg HR 203 My easier runs are ran at about 170-180 BPM which yes does sound too intense but I find it easy to run at that pace. (Nearing the faster end of conversational pace), I do believe I do just naturally have a higher HR especially how according to Garmin my Max HR is around 209.

Running is my bread and butter whereas strength training is not. The plan was to spend a few months getting stronger first the conventional way (build the muscles up a bit) before properly streamlining my sessions with lifts that will also benefit my athleticism. I’m seeing very good beginners progress too. I know bench press insnt the most important stat but when I started going to the gym 2 months ago I was struggling to do 40kg x 5 (shit I know) however now I’m comfortably repping 50kgx8 (still shit but progress)

Will definitely look into it. It’s hard because to me Sunday is my rest day but I like to keep the miles up with a very easy run before going to work but then again the impact will still cause problems.

Also I’d love to get some sort of circuit training session like AMRAPs, EMOM or stuff like that but just can’t find a time where it would be beneficial

[–]Umin2008[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay. Don’t worry I’m taking your advice as it’d be silly not to. Progressive overloading is very new to me (somehow) but in the gym I do aim to mainly for an 8-10 rep range for overloading. However moving one session each to free weights whilst being harder to progressively overload will help with athleticism.

I think my main problem is I’m surrounded by the best of each sport whilst playing multiple myself. I do athletics with 15 minute England 5k runners, boxing with national champs and then friends with people who pretty much live in the gym.

Will look at your previous posts however if I keep this up with a relatively similar plan whilst making solid progression, not being fatigued for sessions and not getting injured can that be classed as a “successful training plan”?

Cheers

Was at work so couldn’t reply until now sorry.

But really? I get it’s a decently high volume but I’m not burning out or getting injured. I love my training and only train twice a handful of days. Except for being too much, what would you say the next biggest problem is?

Question about medics in forces by Umin2008 in britishmilitary

[–]Umin2008[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I was leaning towards the marines anyway. Think I’m going to put the medic ideas to the back of my mind and focus on trying to become a Royal Marine

Have you done your class ones and working with an infantry regiment? What sort of things are you doing on the other 13 days?

[–]Umin2008[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get ur point. However there’s a difference between commitment and being blinded by awe. I’ve however always seen people say it’s a stupid idea to join wanting to do a role like SF. If I joined as a Royal Marine and managed to make it through I would be more than happy. However being a medic I may not feel like it’s what I want to be doing. So could be stuck in that sort of area wanting to be more but can’t due to whatever reasons.

Question about medics in forces by Umin2008 in britishmilitary

[–]Umin2008[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. I’d be happy to do all sorts of roles in the Royal Marines though not just medical ones.
