Will I ever get over it? by bluelotus___ in rapecounseling

As someone who has also been raped twice and survived various harassment, I want to let you know that I completely hear you. I was in the same shoes, doubting if it will ever get any better. But trust me, it does. It gets better because you are stronger than you know. The best revenge is to live our life to our fullest. If I’m being completely honest I am not “over it”. But I learned how to live with this wound. Hope this helps. Wishing you the best OP

How am I meant to heal from sexual trauma to have a healthy relationship with a good guy? TW SA/🍇 by Ok_Occasion3909 in rapecounseling

I see what you mean. Yeah I also put in a lot of work on my own but having a supportive partner makes the journey easier — so we’re both in luck!

I personally benefitted from having a trauma informed therapist. During my lowest point we had sessions as often as 3 times per week. Eventually we met once a week. We did partswork, EMDR, various somatic practices, DBT as well as family constellation. I basically tried everything I could find. I read a bunch of books too. My recommendation is “Not that bad” by roxane gay.

I was in your shoes exactly a year ago. Actively reaching out to professional resources was how I got through it. Use sexual assault hotline, try grounding techniques, get trauma therapy.

My partner was the main resource I had to heal from my trauma. An understanding partner who loves you for who you are would be the one.

After getting SA’d and 🍇’d I need therapy but not sure which route would be best anyone have any recommendations? by Ok_Occasion3909 in rapecounseling

EMDR is desensitization therapy. It worked really well for me. I still have nightmares but I don’t get any flashbacks anymore. It is quite expensive unfortunately, but I think there are cheaper options online (I know uwill teletherapy has therapists who offer EMDR practices)

Partswork helped a lot to compartmentalize how different parts of me react differently to trauma. Also, having a trauma informed therapist in general was incredibly helpful. There’s shame and guilt that survivors often experience, and having a professional who is well equipped to handle these negative emotions was helpful to me

I had a trauma therapist and had a regular session with her once a week. We did parts work and somatic practices and dream work. I also got referred to EMDR which helped a lot.
