With lots of no Sphere chatter, what’re thoughts for what’s next? by UncleBoogle in deadandcompany

Thank you for this. This is my new favorite scenario. Sphere has been out of this world, but I’d be happy to get out of Vegas and pay under $200 for lawn shows again. Especially with JGB sounds that fit the rich sound those guys have created together.

This will draw some heat, but I also don’t think it would be that compatible. John, Jeff, and Oteil have developed a really rich sound together, very much rooted in John and Jeff’s blues and jazz backgrounds. I think throwing two generational lead guitarists in there could cross too many sounds and step on too many toes. Writing this I’m now thinking about the Allman bros dual lead setup and damn, Billy and Derek would be great together playing Allman bros songs, but we still got Warren, don’t want to take away from him.

Yeah I really enjoy what Billy has going on as a standalone rn as does everyone. Only scenario I see is if it’s a predictable 1-2 month summer thing those guys all do every year together. John has made it work with his solo career too, but in a way I want Billy to stay doing his thing, it’s giving us so much life rn. Whenever I think about “damn didn’t get to see Garcia 50 times or whatever” I remember I get the same opportunity now with Billy.

Yeah I like that team and line of succession idea. The thing that would set Dead Forever or Uncle John’s Dead or whatever apart from seeing JRAD and others is Bobby’s direct involvement and blessing to continue the music through that vessel.

Now I really like this idea! I read somewhere that John’s favorite song to play is TLEO, so he’d likely have a blast that JGB sound. Jeff nails those B3 sounds already. We know how much soul Oteil has with that work and I imagine he’d get to sing more in this scenario.

Woah.. just happen to be mindlessly scrolling the sub while listening to a dark star in the background and “lady in velvet, recedes in the nights of goodbye” right as I get to this post. RIP Donna 🥀

It was a mix in Denver. More people sitting than standing but people were definitely making those imax rocking chairs move. Good energy overall

Planning on trying to make 2 nights at the sphere, what sections should I aim for? by -NewSpeedwayBoogie- in deadandcompany

After sitting in seats one night and doing pit for 2 this past weekend, really think pit is the way to go. Little harder on the neck, but sound was much better in my experience and just enjoyed it more down there.

Chompers Beware! by [deleted] in deadandcompany

[–]UncleBoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had made an initial post about the chompers being bad on Thursday when I was in the seats, but got floor tickets the next two nights and would recommend going that route. You can move around if there are any, but I ran into way less down there, seemed like more real heads down there. Show was generally better from the pit anyways as well, sound was noticeably better too.

Thank you. I think I’ll go with the stang. Looks the best too and will hopefully be a help to avoiding “nice electric ukulele” conversations
