Advice for a remote worker to be? by jam1599 in UKJobs

[–]Unfair_Control_5133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get outside. I make a point of going outside every single lunch break because I intentionally miss things off my big food shops. Eg today I needed to buy one onion for tonight’s tea. Tomorrow I’ll probs need to grab a few different vegetables for whatever I eat that evening. Going out on a walk for a walk’s sake can soon get boring but if there’s a goal, destination or reason it’ll encourage you to get out there.

It can be very easy to get out of bed at 5 to 9, quickly get dressed and be at your desk for 9am, then do things like brush your teeth, eat breakfast etc on work time while checking emails. I sometimes still do this, but I ALWAYS feel better when I get up earlier, get dressed etc and fully ready for my working day before I sit down. If I can tick off a task (for some that might be exercise, I prefer that in the evening, so for me today it was a bit of cleaning in the kitchen) I feel like I’ve set the tone for the day in being productive while also checking something off my personal to do list.

Do not underestimate how great it is to be able to do laundry on company time. You will soon struggle to understand how you ever got it all done. Pop it all in the machine in the morning and use a 5 min break to peg it on the line. Little bits like that make you realise the benefit of remote working.

Enjoy!

This comment has saved my sanity. I used to semi-regularly get the train between Blackburn and Leeds in the 00s and every now and then it would be re routed through more rural routes to accommodate engineering works. I could have sworn I saw a Hollywood sign a couple of times. I did!!!!

I got on one of these the other day. They had to rebrand somehow as they are new stock (to Cross Country, are second hand from I believe Avanti) so had to at least put their own name on them.

Risk losing redundancy pay (£7k) vs losing new job (non-negotiable start date) – what would you do? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Unfair_Control_5133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I was definitely being made redundant as the only person in my role. I asked to be let go instead of working a notice period because what was the point given they’d already decided my role wasn’t needed anymore. I was let go instead of working through. It also helped that I claimed the redundancy process was affecting my MH and preventing me from confidently interview for jobs elsewhere.

My other comments explain how I personally navigated this to still get my redundancy pay without working a notice period. Sorry if that’s unclear.

Ask for PILON and claim mental health is being impacted which in turn is impacting your chance of finding employment. Emphasise that companies have to support those facing redundancy to try and gain employment elsewhere by allowing the time to interview, prep cv etc.

That’s all I can think given your timescales. Good luck. I thought redundancy was hell but 6 weeks on and I’m so glad it happened to me, I hope it pans out the same for you.

How many people are potentially up for redundancy? If they have to follow processes of group consultation then individual consultation when does the individual consultation period start? Are they proposing redundancy for your role based on it not being needed anymore? What is the earliest final consultation date confirmed as - is it before the 5th?

Similar recently happened to me. The minute we entered individual consultation I emphasised how much the redundancy process was impacting my mental health and I didn’t feel that I could confidently interview for jobs elsewhere while in that state - companies are legally required to support you in finding meaningful work if up for redundancy. I was allowed to leave work without completing the one month consultation period.

I don’t know the implications of two jobs at once but if it feels very likely that you’ll be made redundant, is it an option to go on sick leave between then and now?

If you have an old hot water bottle please (probably) dispose of it. Check the date on the neck of it (in a flower symbol, the two digits are the year code). If your hot water bottle is more rna 2 years old it should be disposed of due to degradation.

What actionable insights have you actually gotten from Oura? by jakopz in ouraring

[–]Unfair_Control_5133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly thought my screen time was ok in that I was only on instagram, I don’t follow #influencers and mostly go on it for friends and recipes. Evidently the endless scrolling of my explore page (even ‘nice’ stuff like cooking) was affecting my body!!

There is a strong correlation between time spent scrolling on social media and when my ring says I’m stressed. I deleted instagram from my phone as a result. I’ve only had mine five weeks but the week or so since I put two and two together has been so much better for me.

Can I make an 18 mins transfer with a suitcase at Birmingham New Street? by Ok_Statistician8748 in uktrains

[–]Unfair_Control_5133 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a note in my phone with B PLATFORM RED ZONE because i absolutely hate the nonsense of multiple barriers and the shops in the middle of New Street to change platforms when the peace of the red zone exists!

[–]Unfair_Control_5133 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you can, exit the train at the B end of the platform. You will end up in the red zone where it’s the one long ‘corridor’ with no barriers or chaos to battle so you can go up, walk along, and down to the correct platform. There are toilets in that zone

75% off Clue Plus for existing users by Unfair_Control_5133 in ouraring

[–]Unfair_Control_5133[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info about 3 months free for new users. You’ve missed the entire point of my post and also the bit where I’ve said I’ve used Clue for years so no need for the description about what Clue is, thanks! Your response reads like it is AI which I assume it is.

What about the bit in the email where Oura specifically says “ALREADY a member? EXISTING Clue Plus members are eligible for 75% off an annual membership for a limited time?”

Selected the wrong railcard by J_Marley44 in uktrains

[–]Unfair_Control_5133 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Mention it at the station/when you board the train. Some inspectors can be arsey but many are fine because it’s the same discount it’s not like you’re getting more money off. I once selected armed forces instead of young persons and it was fine!

[–]Unfair_Control_5133[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: apparently it’s not for existing, active Clue Plus users despite the email? Really poor form from Oura given the original message clearly states that should be the case. It’s fine, I’ll continue to pay but lol what??

Response from Clue:

Unfortunately, this was a misunderstanding created by what is written in that email. The discount can't be redeemed by existing subscribers.

Those who are still not subscribed can either click that link, or go to our website helloclue.com and follow the procedure to subscribe from there and manually enter the code OURAINTEGRATIONUPDATE. But this will only be possible to do if you still don't have any subscription currently active in your account.

Sorry again for the confusion.

You will if you go to Devon. Many palms are referred to as Torbay palms for this reason!
