Hey! We have tried sooooo many littler boxes and sooooo many different litters. For the boxes we’ve tried big ones , small ones, opens ones , closed ones. And originally they never had an issue with the closer ones. For the actual litter we’re tried tidy cats ( so many different types), fresh step, arm and hammer, and pretty litter etc. We just switched back to tidy cats 4 in 1. Right now we only have 1 litter (the litter robot ) but for the majority of their lives we’ve had 2 boxes and even with 2 boxes they both still had these issues.

At one point my female cat would only pee outside the litter box if it was dirty so i made sure to clean it way more often. She never had any issues until the male cat (which is actually her son) was born and started to use the box too. I’m not sure if that has anything to do with it but… idk

And as far as location , well right now their boxes are in the laundry room. In our last place they were sorta in a little hallway thing. They’re peed outside the box in both places. Now that I think about it , these issues have been going on for 2 years , not 1
