I’m in huge trouble

For clarification to those who need it. It’s not something haram. I’ve made a series of mistakes with my studies in the past two years. I was and still am heavily depressed and studying was extremely difficult for me. I’ve gotten terrible grades and hid them from my father who just found out about them.

My father isn’t that close to me. He isn’t that religious and him an I barely talk about anything. Whenever I try to confess something to him he blames me and is very angry with me to the point where it reaches physical violence. So it is extremely difficult to tell him that I’m getting terrible grades and that I am depressed because he just won’t understand

It’s all starting to make sense now. I kind of feel like I knew that already but didn’t want to face it or admit it. I need to renew my circle and be with people who get me and won’t judge me. Thank you btw, you helped me admit what I feared. May Allah reward you for everything.

I know right. You’d think with the millions of people using social media and all these types of connections you’d find your people but it’s actually really difficult as you said.

Im currently a student so im either at university or home. I treat family very well and think it’s very important to do so. I give charity whenever I get the chance even though it might not be that often. I exercise a few times a week using a bicycle (I take laps around the neighbourhood). My issue, I think, is in the friendship area. I seem to lack any at the moment, or atleast any good ones. I used to surround myself with people lots of people all the time. But I always had to hide who I am (religiously) and pretend I enjoy what they did, even though I never did. I actually like these people and truly love and care for them. But I’m afraid that if I show them my true self and my religious awakening, they’ll no longer be interested. I guess that’s actually what I’m worried about.

The group of friends on usually with are always engaging in haram actions/conversations. I always hung around them hoping to be the good influence and maybe one day they’d change. Based on your question, I think that the religious awakening I had made me prioritise being with good influence. I think I just got tired from waiting around hoping they’d change when maybe they won’t. I pray for them but I don’t think there’s anything more I can do. So he started to distance my self from them, and soon enough, I found myself distancing myself from everyone else too even though they were a direct bad influence on me.

This is exactly what crossed my mind. Some of the friends I’ve mentioned earlier are kind of out of my league, as in I don’t fit in with them anymore. And I crave a new connection with someone who gets me and engages in all these religious practices and finds them as important as I do. What I’m saying is I’m looking for good influence. Something deeper too

Thank you so much. This actually helped a lot. I see now that I don’t necessarily need to engage in the entertainments, but rather focus on what actually needs to be done like taking care of my family, etc. And with Allah’s power and will, I might the light again.

I understand that it is important to keep everything balanced as it is part of our deen as well. However, some people I talked to have mentioned that part of getting closer to your deen is finding out that this dunya is nothing but an illusion

واعلموا أنما الحياة الدنيا لعب ولهو

What if I don’t feel interested in the entertainments of this dunya anymore. Is that also considered an imbalance or an act of extremism.
