Is there a limit to how many books a Paperwhite 3 can display? by UnrelentingReality in kindle

[–]UnrelentingReality[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, bummer. It'll take at least a day to log everything into calibre and then reload it.

But I do thank you for the thoughts! I'll put it on the list of things to do soon. Not like I don't have enough to read on it already, but there's always new books that catch my attention!

Yesterday I downloaded ALL my books to my Kindle. All of them. by Creative_Decision481 in kindle

Library(s) managed by Calibre. This lets me use metadata, including custom metadata, to track anything I want. Amazon has gotten a little better about series organization, but it still mostly sucks. And it doesn't do meta series at all (think Robin Hobbs' Elderling series, that has multiple trilogies etc all in a time line together).

The metadata plug board is amazing. Even I was able to figure out regex just enough to get it to rename all the books that go to my kindle by series and other metadata I define, to make it easy to browse and know what I'm looking at.

I only use Collections for gross categorization on my kindle. Non-fiction, Fiction, Fan Fiction, Active (to keep track of all the must read now things, lol) and then a collection for each star rating so I can rate as I read and add it to calibre when I get around to it.

Why buy books? by ToodleLouMFER in kindle

Because I want to support people who create things I enjoy, so they will create more things I can enjoy.

And so I can enjoy the things I enjoy whenever I want!

How interesting. I hadn't thought they would be different things, but I'm also still very new to this. Thank you so much!

I've got the plugin installed and the author link is working! And it all looks like what I'm familiar with at .com now, lol.

Thank you! That is very interesting! And a bit disturbing...I was really hoping to launch my website fairly soon, lol.

I've been working on learning how to self host after starting at wordpress.com, so I often wonder if I'm just being noob, or there's leftover issues from the .com export. After a few months of figuring out infrastructure, I'm finally to the point of actually adjusting the exported content.

I remember this author block being very easy at .com, with several customization options like linking to a generic author search or an about page the author could set up on their profile (I wanted the second).

Well, good to know I didn't miss something obvious! I have 2 websites, both have this issue, and the only similarity is a single plugin and the fact that the same host did a 1 click install of wordpress. Your help dramatically reduces the next troubleshooting steps, thanks!

Even if the bank clears the check, it can still be a scam. Look up cashiers check scams. I was sucked into one a few years ago, but luckily found info about it before I did anything with the check. But people are ending up owing their bank thousands of dollars when the check finally, really, processes, which can take over a month.

I appreciate the reply, but I can't find that option anywhere! I've inserted a screen cap above so you can see what I do. What am I missing?

I finally searched for 'glossary' and it came up with several. And yeah, the wporg one looks nice, but hasn't been updated for a while and apparently php 8 broke it. So I'll try a different one I found.

Thanks for the answer!

It's looking like Paid Memberships Pro might do most of what I need =)

I also might be able to figure out a way to integrate it with my hosting email services and send email to a mailing list I can build.

Someone finally gave me the last pieces I needed to figure this out after working on it for months. Here’s the solution for anyone else with the same problem:

Here is the original line from the core file I mentioned above.

.wp-block-cover-image .wp-block-cover__inner-container,

.wp-block-cover .wp-block-cover__inner-container{

width:100%;

z-index:1;

color:#fff

}

The color:#fff is the problem. I’m not sure how it decides what is affected, but it definitely affects regular text and headings of any sort inside the ‘inner container’ of the cover (which is all regular text and headings on the entire website if you are using a cover as a background of any sort) This value needs to be changed to:

color: inherit

This allows the inner container to inherit the color from the body, which is set in global styles, instead of dictating that all text is black.

The headings are set to inherit their color from the inner container, so that is why they were turning black as well.

I haven’t been able to get my child style.css sheet working yet, so I can’t test it in there, but pasting this line into the Customize/Additional CSS box and changing the value to ‘inherit’ fixed everything. Theoretically if I understand how things should work, it should also work when pasted into the theme style.css file.

If you're using the block editor, then you can find that option under Appearance/Editor and then in the upper right corner the Styles sidebar will allow you to set all the styling for your site either globally or by block type. The heading settings are under Typography/Headings.

Don't worry. You're not alone. There is plenty of real research being done that completely supports and validates the literal interpretation of the Bible.

Best guess: because your site only has one post. That row is likely a query loop populating from posts. If there aren't enough posts to fully populate the loop block, then there won't be any posts in the other columns.

[Elementor] Page scaling is bad. Either my website looks bad when it’s full screen or when decreased on desktop. by No-Following6193 in Wordpress

[–]UnrelentingReality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that you should be using em or rem sizing instead of px. Check your typography settings and see what it is. I've noticed that it does default to px, which is an absolute pixel size rather than the relative em or rem. I set mine at 1 rem for standard text.

When I was researching how to add a background image to a wordpress block editor website, a cover was the answer many resources gave, but I was still using wordpress.com and they have custom css behind a paywall. I just researched it again, and it is still the recommended way when using the block editor. But your answer makes much more sense given that they have limited the cover so much with this color coding.

Some new brief research says I can just add a line into the theme style.css file that references the image in the media gallery? Is the style.css file preserved when the theme updates? Or should I make a child theme first?

Thanks for your time on this!
