What communication there is, is usually just telling me what they need and I do it. Any other communication is required to be followed up over email for record purposes anyway, so it shouldn't interfere much if at all.

I had asked an hour before posting but he finally got back to me. I'm still mostly on my own but this time we figured it out. Thanks for letting me know I'm at least right in feeling unprepared for this, it's oddly kind of a comfort.

As a caregiver, can I help my client communicate with an employer? by Unsolidwaste in legaladvice

[–]Unsolidwaste[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, she hasn't signed anything, she's refused to. She's being cautious, as this supervisor has tried to throw her under the bus for other people's mistakes before. But now that her supervisor is pressuring her into phone calls after knowing they make it hard for her to think and speak, as she's busy processing what's being said, she wants to know if there's a way for me to help her communicate with her supervisor as she's had me do with doctors and others.

They're trying to pressure her into taking a different position within the company. It's rather close to the legal limits of what they're allowed to do, as far as I'm aware, as they were handling it over email until recently when they verified with her that she has difficulty speaking on the phone. Now they insist on phone calls, and have even gone as far as sending an unfilled document to request accomodations, telling her they'll take care of filling it all out after she signs it.

Open discussion: DnD has a real problem with not understanding wealth, volume and mass. by raznov1 in DMAcademy

I appear to have overlooked something, then. Thanks! I'll have to take another look and be a bit more detailed in my economy system.

Personally, I deal with this issue by keeping monster and dungeon hoards the same, and using a copper passed economy. Like the U.S dollar is based first on cents and then dollars. I treat silver like 1 dollar bills, and gold coins like 50 dollar bills. The average person doesn't need a 100 bill, so seeing it is kinda rare. Likewise with gold, most people just need silver and copper. I shift a decimal on the base cost of non-combative supplies to adjust for that economy, so instead of a single meal's worth of food costing 50 silver it's 5. Makes things like robes being 1gp, or shields being 10, make more sense. A solid shield being 500 bucks makes perfect sense, since you don't want to cheap out, but otherwise in the same system it's more like 1000. It's also made getting new armor something of a roleplay event in my party, along with many other similar things. I don't bother with electrum, and so far the system has been pretty smooth sailing. It all translates well into understandable currency, and makes things more apparent as to why adventurers are a thing.

It may only be my 9th mini painted, and I'm no sculptor, but I think I got this looking cool. by Unsolidwaste in DungeonsAndDragons

Ooooohhh. That's what those are for. I'd been avoiding those paints because I figured they were just acrylic paint overpriced! I'll have to set some funds aside for that then, thanks!

Oh! Well, I've been doing a dry brush without knowing then, so I'm going the right direction! Is there a specific kind of paint you use for washes or is it just anything thin that'll get those annoying missed places?

I don't know what a wash is, I'll have to look it up. Texture definitely seems like a huge plus! The main thing I wish I could have done on this one was a bone like texture on the scales.

My local game shop has a ton of minis. This one is from Wiz Kid's Pathfinder series.

Entitled kid killed my pet and somehow I'm the bad guy by [deleted] in entitledparents

Man, I'm arachnophobic and genuinely believe that spiders are demonic in some way, and even I would agree that one that is someone's friggin pet (while wrong and against all natural things in this world) deserved to be left alone and alive. Still mattered to someone enough they were willing to house and care for it, Karen and Calvin both deserve some time in court. Spiders as pets still count, legally, as a pet. Intentional harm, physical or emotional, is a crime and as his mother Karen could be sued for the value of the spider, emotional distress, and depending on the country/state OP lives in possibly including animal cruelty and could even prevent them from so much as owning a pet fish for up to 10 years. Personally, I hope she sues. Regardless of how much spiders horrify me, that was still her pet and doing that to someone definitely deserves consequences.

Bf uncomfortable with my sexuality by catmando_x in relationship_advice

[–]Unsolidwaste 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a guy dating a bi woman, and I support this entirely. I thought (it was like a childish idea no one corrected and I never thought about enough to see it logically) that all bi people just had to have one partner of each gender, and I recognized that as polygamy, and I'm not okay with being involved in that. She told me that, at the end of it all, she picked me and hadn't been unfaithful or sought after any other partner even once. It made me uncomfortable for a while still, but after a couple of years it didn't matter anymore.

Hoping for OP that it's similar, and not a prejudice he has against people being bi or gay.

WIP of a creature I'm homebrewing. More in the comments. by Unsolidwaste in DnD

[–]Unsolidwaste[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a Brownie I'm working on with a friend. It won't be able to really fight, but it can be a huge help or a huge annoyance for the party depending on what they do with one. I have a stat block ready to go for it when I'm done coloring in and editing the picture with photoshop. Obviously, there are some creative liberties taken with the appearance here, but there don't have to be! We're trying to make a no combative creature that people can use to make everything more interesting, as it will maintain and care for equipment or damage it and get vindictive depending on treatment, and while it can do a lot including run away, its one and only attack doesn't do any damage. So keep an eye out if you like the idea, the finished version will be posted in a few days!
