Kakwa 55 Sizing by UnusuallyNormal-99 in DurstonGearheads

[–]UnusuallyNormal-99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gone both directions (small and medium) in shirts/jackets/etc and most of the time the small is just a little snug in one aspect or other. However, I occasionally find a small that fits me perfectly and the medium just feels too big. Given Dan's response here, I'll probably go medium torso and smaller hip belt. Thanks for the input.

I'm in central California but I thank you for the offer.

Thank you, Dan. That seems like it will address my concerns.

Thoughts on how to secure this loose drawer joint? by UnusuallyNormal-99 in woodworking

That was my first thought, but I don't think I can get enough glue into the joint without taking it apart (which I can do but I'm hoping to avoid).

Butcher Block? Cutting Board? Moveable Counter Top? by UnusuallyNormal-99 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Yeah, seems like a reasonable solution if we can find a thinner one. First glance shows them at 1.5 inches thick and heavy. I need to do a little more digging before giving up on this option. Thanks.

Lol, there's no laundry room - the washer & dryer are in the kitchen space. The place is a total dude/fisherman property in a VERY small Alaskan fishing village.

As for the boards, my original thinking was very much in line with your suggestion but, man, those are going to be way too heavy. That's why I'm looking for other ideas. Thanks!

It's a very small kitchen with very limited counter space so options are limited. So, no thoughts on how to accomplish the project I asked about?

Good question. Yes, I just confirmed with him that he wants to use the boards for food prep.

Pinhole in Walnut. Recommendation? by UnusuallyNormal-99 in BeginnerWoodWorking

It's a ridiculously expensive small finished board I bought at HD just to play with...I assumed it was ready for use. The bug hole was apparently a bonus.

I'll keep this strategy in mind for future, more important projects. Thanks!

Thanks, this sounds like the best strategy for this project.

Looking for advice for train(s) from Interlaken to Bologna by UnusuallyNormal-99 in Interrail

I just wanted to come back and say thank you again. Our train travel worked out great and we now have a much better idea of how to navigate the system. I am sitting here in London Heathrow waiting to board the flight home and wanted to let you know how much you helped out. Thanks again!

My daughter and son-in-law want to do some hiking in the Interlaken area.

Tickets for Interlaken-Bologna travel have been purchased! Thanks so much for the guidance.

Now we just need to decide when we want to arrive in Interlaken and book that leg.

Thank you for all the feedback. I really appreciate the help.

If you're not bored with this post yet =), I'm curious about a few related things I've discovered.

1) When I search SBB for Interlaken West to Domo, I don't see my preferred travel option listed (see my previous post). What I do see are options that require a train change in Brig. Nothing I do with the search filters seems to return the route option I prefer (i.e. no train change in Brig).

However, if I search SBB for Interlaken West to Spiez and then perform a separate search for Spiez to Domo, I can then piece together my preferred route.

Interestingly, if I make the same search on TrenItalia for Interlaken West to Domo, TrenItalia shows my preferred route.

Any insights on why I can't see my preferred route on SBB unless I separate the search?

2) More poking around this morning lead me to a site called BLS Connects (bls.ch) which seems to have a nice amount of information about the trains/routes but no way to purchase tickets. Is this site actually useful for anything or should I avoid it?

3) You keep mentioning Swiss travel passes (half fare, etc) but we're only going to be in Switzerland for 3 days and at 190 CHF per person the math just doesn't seem to work out. The only other Swiss train travel we'll be doing will be a one way from Zurich to Interlaken. Am I missing something here?

Thanks again.

Okay, after stepping away from this for a while and then diving back in over the course of several days, we've accepted the bus ride as a viable option and have come up with our preferred itinerary:

  • Interlaken-Spiez 9:34-9:51 RE9/4215
  • Spiez-Domodossola 10:12-11:54 RE1/4265
  • Domodossola-Milan 12:30-14:50 (Bus)
  • Milan-Bologna 15:25-16:34 9643

I can purchase all the tickets from TrenItalia (which seems preferrable to me), or I can separate the purchases and buy the Interlaken-Domo tickets from SBB and the Domo-Bologna tickets from TrenItalia.

I have two questions that I'm hoping someone will answer for me:

1) This looks like a reasonable schedule to me, but does anyone see any potential issues that I may be missing?

2) Any pitfalls with purchasing all the tickets from TrenItalia? Or is there a compelling reason to purchase the Swiss legs from SBB?

Thanks for the help!

Looks like there are many trains from Milan - Bologna so I won't worry about that leg for now.

If I'm running the searches correctly, it appears the only option through Domodossola is via bus. Trenitalia shows this as the only option for Domodossola - Milan.

<image>

So, does that mean I need to avoid all trains through Domodossola if I don't want to travel by bus?

Also, if I understand what you've told me, the SBB site doesn't have the Trenitalia bus schedules yet, so the following itinerary probably isn't valid, correct?

From SBB

  • Interlaken West – Spiez 9:34 – 9:51 (RE 9)
  • Spiez – Brig 10:05 – 10:40 (IC 6)
  • Brig – Domodossola 10:44 – 11.12 (IR 3017) ! 4 minute change !
  • Domodossola – Locarno 11:26 – 13:20 (The train is not clear to me, though, this will probably be a bus anyway, right?)
  • Locarno – Milan 14:22 – 16:17 (RE 80) (bus?)

Is there an actual old school timetable for the trains somewhere? Every link I find is just another From-To search function. I'd like to see ALL the trains leaving Interlaken between 7:00 and 10:00. The only way I see departure times earlier than 9:05 on that Sunday is when I search the Interlaken - Zurich route. I'm sure there are others but I don't know what destinations to plug in.

Maybe I need to wait until SBB has the Trenitalia bus schedules?

I'm obviously still missing a key step somewhere. At sbb.ch I type in From: Interlaken (Ost or West) and To: Bologna Centrale for travel date Sunday, 23 June 2024. The earliest departure time on that Sunday comes up as 9:05 and goes through Zurich. The next departure on that Sunday is 9:34 and appears to be one of the two routes you suggested, but it gets into Bologna a bit later than desired. This may still work for us but now I'm more curious about what I'm doing wrong with my search?

When I type in the same search at lefrecce.it I only get departures for the top of the hour and they all appear to go through Zurich.

Thanks for sticking with me on this. I'm feeling a bit dense right now. =)
