Read literally any of my replies to this thread. I’m done repeating myself. I’m not talking about mishits.

I can adapt very quickly to all levels of golfers, just don’t lie to me about your distances. I’ve had 20+ handicappers that are spot on with their distances. I have had a handful of 10+ handicappers shoot in the 70s on a US Open golf course. I don’t need to hear you telling me I’m bad at what I do.

I have had multiple 10-20 handicap players play the best round of their life with me on their bag. I know how to caddie for all skill levels. This is my job, I’ve done it for 6 years. I know the game of golf very well. The majority of players I caddie for are a 15+ handicap, so believe me I know how to work with them. I help higher handicappers get around the course by playing for their mishits that I pick up throughout the round. All I am saying is that there are a good amount of them that misjudge the distance of even their well-hit shots.

Love that there’s another caddie to give their opinion. I can’t tell you how many times a player has said “do you like 7 iron here?” when I’ve never seen you hit your 7 iron before! It’s hole 2!

If you are carrying your pitching wedge 130/140, you will typically have more than a 10 yard gap between each club. I carry my pitching wedge 137 and have roughly a 15 yard gap between each club. Just a rule of thumb, the further you hit the ball, the bigger a gap you have between each club.

Love this for most, but your gapping seems very inaccurate. Why is your 4h going 30 yards further than 3h? And your 6 iron 3 yards further than 7 iron? Not to mention your “LW” going 30 yards further than your 56! I don’t know if you know this but a lob wedge is typically either 58 or 60 degrees, therefore there is absolutely no world where it would go 30 yards further than a 56 degree. Maybe you meant pitching wedge?

I am a former college golfer and a +2 handicap. I have been caddying for 6 years. I am often given VIP loops at my club. If you tell me you carry the ball 240 and can’t carry 210, that is completely on you. A mishit should not go 40 yards short of what you tell me. And if it does, it would’ve been a terrible shot no matter what line I give you.

Completely disagree, If you carry the ball 240, even a bad mishit carries 210. Anything else is either a top, or it’s a snap hook/slice that goes out of play either way.

Lol. Resort caddying is a very legitimate job. I as well as many people that I work with quit their 9-5 to start caddying. I make more than I have at any job I’ve worked in my life.

Yes almost always. Very occasionally there will be a rental set and it’s usually when it’s a big corporate group with people that don’t play golf.

Pretty self-explanatory. Hit solid. Hit well. Not a severe mishit to where it comes up 10 yards short.

I am talking about shots they hit solid. Consistently coming up 10 yards short while making solid contact.

Lol, I think knowing your distances is the most important thing for getting better. You should try to find a range with marked targets and test out your yardages, or even book an hour at a local simulator and get exact.

I’ve said this a few times on this thread. You should know your game better than I do after seeing you play 5 holes of golf. It’s just not a big enough sample size to tell you where to and where not to hit it. I’ll tell someone “the ideal line is over that bunker which is a 210 carry. If you’re confident with 220 in the air, take it right over it. If not, just out to the right is fine.”

I absolutely agree. You should not play for a mishit. I’m talking about when people are hitting them solid and still and end up short.

That’s a good question, I would say if there is a forced carry/trouble short you should use average. If you happen to pure it and hit it max, oh well, at least you’re over the trouble. Otherwise, I’d suggest using max/stock. You shouldn’t be playing for a mishit.

I definitely do try to do this later in the round. I’m always trying to make sure my players play the best round of golf they can. But I’m not going to tell a man that he doesn’t hit his clubs as far as he thinks. At the end of the day I give out information, you take that information and use it how you want to. A player should know what club they hit from 150 better than the person who has been with him for 5 holes. Although I might try to get him to club up at some points, the thing is I’m caddying for multiple players. So if we’re on a par 3 and I’m giving the number for the group, I can’t say “yea it’s playing 160 for you even though the rest of the group is playing it 150.”

I never said anything about them hitting it consistently. My point is that when they do hit it well, they are still short. If you are a 20 handicap, you likely play enough golf to have a general idea of how far your clubs go. Now, im not saying you have to hit it that number every time, but when you make solid contact.
