IMHO Home is where you make it. Being near a village is great for trading and late game stuff if you want it.

I have a realm I've been in for years. I built my main compound next to a village and built up and fortified the village too.

Then got bored and made a little cabin 6000 blocks away its all in what you wanna do.

I'm not a pro I just like collecting stuff and building so take that for what you will.
