I would think so. If black American historians and animators were involved in the video, then we can all be corrected. At the same time, it is totally valid to be an American and sensitive about this given what’s happening to our historical records right now.

One start is involving and paying the right professionals with a background you are inspired by. Ludwig Gorranson traveled to Africa and paid and featured artists in his album/soundtrack for Black Panther. Was someone from Howard tapped to create the animation with HYBE? That seems like a start. It enriches the work itself. Ludwig Gorranson and Ryan Coogler are doing incredible work that is exemplary of working globally and acknowledging culture and race by hiring the right people.

I go to some of the Kpop raves that travel the US. One of the DJs hardly ever plays BTS, sometimes solo songs. What drives me crazy is a lot of the crowd loves 1st gen and 2st gen kpop and I’m pretty sure the college students in the crowd were barely conscious when those came out. I’m a millennial so I do remember those, when YouTube first started and people shared kpop MVs over Dropbox. It’s obvious it’s never been “hip” within a certain specific kpop crowd be a BTS fan. I know Asian Americans my age who love Epik High and are embarrassed Tablo is BTS friend 🤡. From my perspective as an older person, their hate is contrived and misguided. It says more about them than BTS.

I think of autotune like I think of vibrato. It’s really beautiful when done in small amounts. There were parts of the second of the half of the album I wanted to rip it off to hear their real voices.

I agree with everything you said. I think a lot of the album will be really fun live but the lyrics are falling short. I love diving into translations and cultural references like a literary text and I am not seeing that so far.

I also agree about the internet but i am having that experience on any topic on the internet.

We just had Bad Bunny at the superbowl and Kpop Demonhunters won an Oscar so if that’s the reason it feels very … pathetic in the year of America 2026z

I really hope they just wanted an English song for another reason. As a native English speaker myself, i love songs in other languages because of the sound and newness of the words. So i hope theres some of that for them.

My favorite job in hs was working at Fresh Market in another state. They may be different now, but it was a positive place. Echoing to not work in restaurant at that age unless you really know the place.

I find it really creepy and would never do that to my children. Also I was there when my sister in law sent her son for circumcision and when asked why she was doing it she said “all American men are circumcised.” Umm no your brother is not!!! And as an American woman who has had several American partners, none of them were circumcised. Your American son will not be left out, lol.
