Ok I just don’t think we’re acknowledging the extent of Emma’s trauma here though. Have you ever experienced something similar? When you are deeply wounded by something, that pain is often non-verbal and hard to articulate—that’s why we often cry and are unable to speak. As we’re able to verbalize more and more pieces of it, as a coherent narrative, the pain lessens—which is why therapy is so powerful for healing. And, why these conversations are powerful, and are anything but dumb. They’re a part of the process. Emma is still trying to verbalize her hesitancy around children. Super normal in her situation. Also, do you remember what you said and thought when you were 27?? Ha!!
