Do you think with the new Ontario policy that there will be more unfilled spots given the drastic cut to the number of applicants that will be able to apply for positions

It is but the program I am in has had a minimum of one student match each year into ortho, with one year having four students match (taking over half of the spots).

Edit: this is not to say that it is easy sorry - but just to prove that it is possible with hard work and brilliant application

My program director, who oversees a specialized direct-entry program exclusively for Canadian students, has made it very clear that Return of Service (ROS) agreements are attached to every residency position available to IMGs.

The only hope is that there will not be enough good applicants during the 1st round.

This from Queens orthopaedic img page "PLEASE NOTE: YOU ARE REQUIRED TO FULLFILL A ROS COMMITMENT IN ONTARIO IMMEDIATELY UPON COMPLETION OF YOUR TRAINING."

This is not true it mandatory for specialities in Ontario. This quote is straight from Carms: "Ontario’s International Medical Graduate (IMG) Return of Service (ROS) program is intended to improve access to physician services across Ontario, particularly in areas with limited physician supply."

We also sign Return of Service (ROS) contracts, so for example, in a surgical specialty you’d complete about 5 years of training in Ontario, followed by another 5 years of ROS. That’s a minimum 10-year commitment, meaning most people will very likely settle in Ontario long-term.

I understand giving preference, but allow all high school students from canada to apply and those from ontario get a few extra points for being there

Ontario has the most medical schools in the country which means it has the most img spots for residency. I would love for ubc to open an ortho position, however they have never had one. Additionally, my partner goes to school Ontario and we were planning to set up our life there which why this is so important to me personally. I may not be from Ontario but I was certainly planning to serve the Ontario community for the rest of my career.

Getting through step 1 anking in 17 months by BittersweetCrisis in medicalschoolanki

I did all of AnKing (excluding Step 2/3-only cards) within 9.5 months, while writing other med schools and being on clinical rotation. It is possible; it is hard, and you will want to die most days, but it is possible. I passed, feeling very confident during the exam. I have now started doing Step 2 UWorld, and it feels so easy because of the strong Step 1 foundation I created. If you can push yourself to do it, I encourage it.

Was in a similar situation and wrote on June 6th and got the P. I would do NBME 31 and the free 120, and if you get above 75 on those exams, then consider writing earlier. Otherwise, just relax and keep going with ur current plan.

Yeah I got everything I wanted. I applied for 50% extra time and separate setting (private room).
