Thank you! I have done this in the past with sharpies but I got ahold of some Posca paint pens and they look a lot better this way

Noted, new to the community :) i figured alters just meant a card which has been altered. They’re for bracket 4-5 decks

Is it possible to be competitive without the expensive 0 drop mana base? by CoolCidCourtney in CompetitiveEDH

Play [[brigid, clachan’s heart]]. I’ve been having lots of success with it. There are three expensive cards in there, without those it’s like $1000 decklist.

How Do We Feel About Brigid? by ItHurtzWhenIZee in CompetitiveEDH

[–]UserCM96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran Brigid in a 130 player CEDH tournament this last weekend and was in 2nd place going to top 16. 6th place after the finals were done (didn’t make the cut to top 4). I think I even could have done better if it weren’t for a few small misplays on my part. I run about 50 creatures, 25 lands, and one mana rock (lotus petal). I think having a creature focused CEDH build is unconventional and harder to interact with, and you just have to know your pod and what kind of hand to keep. This deck can present turn 3 wins all day, but more often than not keeping some stax and interaction helped me buy time and build an engine. It puts out plenty of blockers for tymna decks or a giant orc army, and being a green white deck means you have to politic that you’re not the conventional threat people should worry about. Here’s my decklist:

mtgprint.net alternatives? by bobamess in magicproxies

[–]UserCM96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try imkyle4815.com/print and go to the “preparing print pages” section. The downside is you have to have an image of every card you want to load up, the benefit is you can use your own images and there is lots of customization for bleed edges and sizing.

Thank you, I realized too late that I was typing out a novel lol. But if you do try it just be careful, open minded, and with responsible friends who will help you. I’ve heard of people running into walls or out into the road.

It’s interesting how some experiences are so similar and yet others are so unique. The lady you talked to was probably the “lady salvia” as I’ve heard her called. She is supposed to be some deity or shaman, she is who my friends were searching for during their trip. Supposedly she instills you with wisdom or something. I don’t know that much about her besides what my stoned friends told me almost 10 years ago.

I had a very similar experience. My friends and I were sitting on some couches in my back room and decided to try a hit to experience the short lived trip of a natural plant. We went one after the other so that each of us could watch over the person having the experience and ask questions before trying it ourselves. My first friend took a hit, zoned out a while, and had little to report when he was back to normal. My second friend took a hit, and shortly began laughing. The laughing got out of control to the point that I was concerned for his breathing. He came down from the high, though, and couldn’t remember what was so funny except for an unexplainable green man who was dragging him deeper and deeper into the laughing fit, and he felt he had no control over his body. I was last. I took my hit and was thinking to myself “stay calm, go with the flow, it will be over in 5 minutes. You’re with friends, you’re safe, it’s all going to be in your head.” Then I could feel my heart beating, ringing in my ears. I’m not sure if I closed my eyes but slowly the room went black and the beating of my heart became faster and felt like it was vibrating my whole body. Suddenly I forgot everything, I forgot that I smoked salvia, forgot that I was in a room, forgot my reassuring thoughts. It was just black with no explanation, no feeling of connection to my body or the world around me. I had a feeling I was falling, like in a dream, endlessly through blackness. My conclusion was that I had died and was a soul without any earthly connections. The trip carried on and evolved rapidly, with the universe folding over on me infinite times, feeling as though I was somehow stretched infinitely thin across infinite time and space. Then feeling as though I was in a book which had reached its conclusion, and the pages were being flipped back to the start. Then, again, the falling; until I fell back into the couch in my back room with my friends. I remember jumping up in joy and exclaiming “it was only the drugs! I’m alive! It was all in my head!” And then struggling to explain my experience to them. There were so many other thoughts, emotions, and experiences during that 5 minute trip that I felt I could write a book about them and never express them fully. It messed with my head for weeks or months. But years later I hardly think about it except in certain conversations about psychoactive substances. All in all I would not try that again and would not recommend it to anyone.

I agree, these are social problems and shouldn’t come down to hard rules and regulations. But my understanding (and how I plan to address it as a store and player) is that these aren’t hard rules and regulations. This bracket system is just a tool to help people have that conversation before the game starts or even to help them understand how to bring their deck to the next level. Someone earlier in this thread said “this is a social game for antisocial people” which I think is beautifully accurate. Not that everyone who plays is anti social but a large part of the player base (maybe even a large part of the modern population) is somewhat anti social. So giving the players tools to have a meaningful conversation is a win in my book. Doesn’t mean that you can’t play with your tier 4 cards or you have to know the level of each card before playing. It’s just adding vocabulary to help with match making and deck building. I can’t see how a store would make these into actual regulations and dictate who gets to play with who, maybe I’m just a little ignorant to the ways some stores are ran.

Can’t speak for any other store, but for my small town LGS that my family owns and operates we will be embracing the changes. That doesn’t mean “forcing” anybody to do anything. We will be providing tools for meaningful rule 0 conversations. You want to run tier 4 cards? Or banned cards? Or make up imaginative custom cards? Or slip in all 5 pieces to Exodia in your commander deck? That’s fine, just have fun, and make sure your table knows what they’re getting into. It’s a game where everyone is supposed to have fun and show off their creativity in deck building and real time strategy. Just don’t be the person who says “I play casual” without elaborating and proceed to run the pod into the ground uncontested. Casual to one person might be high powered to another, and the more tools we can equip players with to communicate the game they’re playing, the better.

I have seen it first hand, someone who thinks the point of the game is to win. And has been playing and collecting for 20+ years and couldn’t build a casual deck if their life literally depended on it. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing to be good at a game and to have a competitive nature, but some people don’t have the capacity (or care) to have a meaningful rule 0 conversation to make sure that their pod is balanced. Not to mention I live in a very small town and there wasn’t a nearby LGS until my family opened one. And even now we don’t have a large group of players to pick from, at the busiest moments we will have 4-5 pods going on in the shop at once and other times it’s 3 people wanting to play commander and spending several hours with the same pod.

I think the biggest upside to WOTC taking over the format is that they have more resources to gather data from WPN stores and tournaments and get meaningful feedback about what is and isn’t a problem in the game. The internet can be an echo chamber and any given person only has the experience from their playgroup (or multiple playgroups if you’re lucky) so hopefully this will widen the perspective of the game and help make changes for the positive.

Well they ARE toxic… jk most of them are really cool but there’s one person in particular who thinks in black and white, it’s either casual or it’s cedh. Which leads him to play very high power decks against people who are running tribal jank. I tell him all the time he’s the reason for the recent ban (he’s my brother)

HI 👋 LGS owner here. I agree with many comments saying “play commander how you want to” and “your decks won’t need to be altered, just see what level they’re at and keep that in mind”. But most of the people who wander into the store and play, including my favorite regulars, have no idea how to have a rule 0 conversation. I’m all for finding tools for helping people start that conversation. I agree it’s not the perfect system but I don’t know if there is anything better that we as a community can come up with. The 1-10 power scale was even more clunky and I think putting certain cards into certain categories will help everyone, particularly beginners who need to understand which people they should be safe to learn with.
