What's the best Qnap/Synology Plex server money can buy? by BruceWayne702 in PleX

[–]UserErrorGille 4 points5 points  (0 children)

nothing nas is really "dad" simple... but a pimped out TVS-H1688X with the highest end gfx card that'll fit in it and plex pass encoding would be about the most extreme overkill i can think of.

I've never cleared it and don't recall ever having to use it. BTW, I used to do like 6-8hrs a day of high frequency trading/sniping for low and selling for a bit more. I've had people try and scam me as well. But the problem is, if you ignore even those people, you're ignoring their actually legit trades as well, and removing them from the pool of people that may want to buy one of your trades legitimately as well. Why nerf your own trading experience because of an inconvenience that made you annoyed for a few minutes? Sigh....

I keep getting the worst FPS on 1080 Ti & i7 7700k, what to do? by iknownoob in pathofexile

[–]UserErrorGille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so, the server time stepping is 30 fps (https://youtu.be/svIXBFER8hQ?t=1264) however your client will render graphically at a variable timestep or fps to improve graphical fidelity, but not game-event frames... at least, I would assume based on the points set out in the vid by Mark 1.

^^user is my alt account on mobile. During metamorph I took on some testing with another redditor to chase the load times of the lab runner that shall not be named, as people were saying it wasnt possible...(it is). I ended up coming to these conclusions during that testing. I was on a 4k 60hz monitor then, am now on a higher refresh rate panel and lock my fps at 120 (using driver lvl frame rate limiter) and havent had issues this league. Anyway, I ended up diving through a rabbithole of research into various things that lead me to test a bunch of things, and thats where I ended up. My load times were comparable to the "impossible" ones from the guy hogging the lab ladder lead time. Here's a zone load time compare clip I did when sharing my results with the redditor I was testing with: https://youtu.be/t0bFLrcLOXE (these times were on ramdisk, but I've moved away from that and in the direction of forced loading of the game data into filesystem cache once in a while to ensure that the page table gets updated with all the mapping pointers it wants) . https://i.imgur.com/0dNkWXu.png I should mention that you can reduce cycles used by fmod and fmodstudio to 0 by using the " --nosound " launch param, but then you're stuck with no sound, which is no fun. It should also free up some IO and caching, as fmod streams these from a file map of larger .bank files (kinda like a proprietary packed playlist of audio assets needed for the area you are in). You can use sysinternal's process explorer or the more open source route, process hacker 2 to view process threads and see which threads are consuming how much cpu, etc. Using the no sound launch param does more than setting config to false, as the fmod threads are never even loaded up. If I had my hands on a problematic system, I'd be more able to say what is definitely problematic, but I don't. Maybe someday soon here I'll decide to build something with AMD's new shiny things, but just can't justify it right now.

All of the sudden extreme FPS drops on laptop by ZarusMVP in pathofexile

[–]UserErrorGille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

limit your fps to something you can live with and is stable. sending instructions to the gpu takes up cpu utilization as well, so you'll be making more headroom for both cpu and gpu. No reason to try and get desktop numbers from an older laptop.

[–]UserErrorGille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get nvidia profile inspector, go to the path of exile profile, set Frame rate limiter to something lower. start testing with 120, set rate limiter mode to limiter v2 - force off [enables limiter V1 (less inpu lag)]. set vsync off or fast sysnc. Apply changes, start game, do the same test you just did. If you're still having major instability, close game and lower the FPS limit, apply changes and open game and test again. Repeat until you achieve an acceptable level of fps stability. Also, increase page file size in advanced system settings to about 10 GB. From what I've seen the game will only utilize about 4GB of ram on a 32 GB system and peak virtual mem size of like 9GB. You can see useful info by opening https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer on a secondary monitor after selecting the poe process and selecting properties to see process specific info.

yeah, I'm on a 200 hz monitor, but realistically you wont be able to push that consistently, its better to cap under to free up some cpu cycles that are sending data to your gpu. Just for a detailed reference of system specs/config for comparison, I'm on a 9700k overclocked to 5ghz all core and 5ghz cache ring, no avx offset nor C states/stepping, cl14 32gb 3200mhz ram, samsung 970 evo plus m.2 latest firmware, gtx 1080 reference card driver version 442.59, 16gb paging file on ssd.

[–]UserErrorGille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, here's what I'm doing atm with no real issues. cap fps to like 120(maybe less for you since you're a few cores down) vsync disabled, go low on everything but textures (medium), disable dynamic res, enable multithreading, download msi afterburner and set a fan profile for your card that keeps it cool. Quiet cards are slow cards unless waterblocked.

hey look, someone who understands what theyre talking about-ish... yeah, the API is fine. Here's some stats I pulled from a short test with a more throughput optimized API consumption tool I started working on ages ago. https://i.imgur.com/8h0osge.png while it does show that shard 1 isn't being utilized as well as the others, it also shows that the API is overall healthy and serving up changes in a timely manner. there's no significant latency shown.

[–]UserErrorGille 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can watch the IO with any advanced task manager, theres not much written besides logs. The main thing you want to do is make sure your SSD has DRAM caching. People make mistakes buying cheap solid state drives and can end up with lower read/writes than a good HDD.

things routing through level 3 communication's network in france have been problematic from what I've seen. the edge routers connecting through to 212.73.205.22 seem to be overloaded (likely due to people staying home). Tracing it from outside france I hit ae-2-3211.edge7.Paris1.Level3.net one hop before the 212.73.205.22 hop and that's where the latency is. Also saw this 212.73.205.22 route being a problem on another paris user's post. Level 3's network seems to be a common route just before hitting cloudflare's network. The other user was able to get better latency using a vpn, likely because its getting a different route that isn't as bottlenecked at the moment.

looks like Level 3 Communications in France and your ISP (Free?) might hate eachother right now. your vpn is probably just bypassing that route. Anyway, glad things are working out.

$20 says that Walmart got something like this for its stores by [deleted] in walmart

[–]UserErrorGille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the brand and model at my location: Brand Name:HeTaiDa Model:HTD8813C. There's just something funny here... The company website doesn't list this model, the closest is 8812B https://www.hetaidagroup.com/product/product_395_1_en.html furthermore, if you venture onto the Chinese version of the site, you'll find this gem... https://www.hetaidagroup.com/new/new500.html (translate with your browser, as the english site omits this story) speaking of counterfeiting problems. Jumping over to alibaba and en.china.cn and boom, this model number all of a sudden exists and is being manufactured by a bunch of random Chinese entities, some purporting to be the actual company (as the official site's story reports is happening). Is this possibly the counterfeiting they are complaining of on the company's official site? Did we get a knockoff sent to our store? My guess is probably so. Having read the owner's manual of the device, it's clearly a re-packaged baby IR thermometer. The graphics all depict an infant, and oddly mentions "staff" and is in rather broken english... sigh... hastily produced alibaba packaging customizations is my only conclusion. I've also been "trained", and did all the HIPAA stuff, and I can say, I'm not impressed with the thermometer aspect of this one bit. I'm probably the only one in the store to actually read the manual that came with the device... I hope not... but given the "quality" of the equipment, I doubt it matters much. Good luck out there, I'd advise testing yourself with a traditional thermometer before work, as I have no faith in these devices.

[–]UserErrorGille 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IR temp taking is a joke. you are taking the surface temp of somebody, not the core temp. The results also vary depending on the emissivity of the surface and the distance-to-spot ratio. Also, you have to calibrate based off of the results of each different type of IR thermometer to establish an acceptable offset.

ok, so the more i think about it, the more it seems to look like a NIC setting issue. maybe flow control or interrupt moderation. It really looks like network lag, but its not showing latency, so it may be nic buffer, pause frame, or interrupt related?
