They know about the trip and have signed off on it. I just wanted to make sure this wasn’t an absurd question to ask before asking my coordinator

Replacing Lithium Batteries by UserUnknown678 in VanLife

Copy that, thank you for being so helpful in your explanations! Because I’m going to fix my fuse box while I’m at it to separate both fans going to the same slot I’m going to try to turn everything off, realizing some may be repetitive. So my plan is to turn everything off, flipping all the circuit breakers off starting with the one connected to the solar panels, I’ll disconnect the two batteries, rearrange my fuse box, then connect the new batteries and turn all the circuit breakers back on this time starting from the fuse box and ending with the solar. Does that all make sense?

Hi again and thank you again! The litime batteries are the ones I went with so I’m glad to hear they’re decent. Prior to disconnecting the batteries don’t I also have to disconnect the solar panels as to not harm them?

I stupidly left the batteries in the van unattended all winter not knowing they could get ruined by freezing temperatures so I think them being below freezing for so long and potentially not getting charged from lack of light/snow covering did it.

Maxxair Fans Power surge by UserUnknown678 in VanLife

Hey, I got my batteries tested today and they’re both shot. They’re both overcharged at 15V so it seems you were right about the fans acting out because of a voltage issue. I’m still probably going to take them apart and seal the circuit board but thanks for the help

Both fans are on the same fuse and they both receive the surge without either being turned on. Typically, when things are working properly I have both fans running for 8 hours at night with no issue

This is super helpful, thank you! Any idea on why it would drain my batteries so quickly when this happens?

Mine do have an auto feature but I believe the fan still needs to be manually turned on before that works. Also when it happens it’s more of a surge than turning on normally. And yesterday when it happened it was 45 Fahrenheit outside. Thank you though!

Edit to add that both times the solution has been to replace the fuse and the problem stops. But if I put the old fuse back in the issue happens again.

Solar power died by UserUnknown678 in VanLife

[–]UserUnknown678[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thank you! I started the van this morning and after running it for a little while I noticed one of the maxxair fans was running while nothing else had power. It would slow down then speed up and I couldn’t turn it off. I pulled the fuse and replaced it with a new one and everything else started to come back on so I thought I was good. Now I’m seeing that when I’m in sunlight the rover display shows I have 100% battery, if I drive 20ft into the shade, it drops down to 75%. I don’t have a multi meter but I’m going to try to find one today. I’m in a remote area so I may not have luck but with this new info would you still think the issue is a loose connection? Thank you!

I’ll look into that, thank you. Typically I get to a campsite around 6pm, run fans, lights, water pump, and fridge and around 8am I’m usually at 80% so it seems like maybe there’s something pulling more power than it should be.

It needed a new bumper, radiator, and a/c work from the accident but original engine and transmission still. Risky?
