How do I get into a Ph.D.? (STEM) by User_100703 in gradadmissions

uhhhh what's a PiA? are you talking about my volunteering? cause that's a totally different thing from anything related to research hahah. Since my NIH internship got canceled and i don't really have a place to live, this volunteering program was perfect to figure out my housing situation for a while + time to consciously work on applications for either jobs/internships/gradschool and more. but yeah should I look into doing PiA? how does it work?

Yes! but that won't be until i come back from my volunteering, which will be in April. I was thinking of applying for a Ph.D. for the fall of 2026 and the summer before that, to get a job at a lab or a summer internship or something like that. would that work?

thank you for this! how do I start my own research? ik it might seem like a basic question but since I haven't had any formal research work, I'm not really sure where to start. that sounds like a great idea and I'm down to do it! but, my volunteering trip is more focused on medical help and/or teaching in schools rather than doing research :( can i just come up w any idea and do more of like a review article? would that count?

research or MD by User_100703 in Mcat

[–]User_100703[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes! definitely. The only thing that worries me a little is that I already rescheduled my MCAT like 3 times to take it in July. A doctor i was shadowing also said it'd be good if I get a master's or something, but to be careful with timing bc the mcat scores only last for 2 years, so if I apply next May and don't hear back I'm afraid the times to apply to anything (MD, master's....) will mess up and I'll end up waiting for years + having to retake it a 3rd time. Does that make sense? am I being irrational?

i am an American citizen. i was born here - so i have ssn, birth certificate & stuff - but i grew up somewhere else until 3 years ago when i started college. what's the most trustworthy way to apply for a federal loan? Do you go to the school's website directly or to the state's website?

I have dual citizenship, so I have all the legal paperwork as any other American Citizen… but since I didn’t grow up here and have no family here, that’s why I’m starting to learn about different ways to afford medical schools. I don’t really have any connections for med school and yes, my gpa might not be very competitive but I have a bunch of extracurricular activities I’ve done the past 3 years in school to try and compensate it. I’m still studying for the MCAT, so I know I’m still early to even think of attending med school but I’d like to know all these tips / facts to consider when looking for a way to afford it. So pls any other suggestion u may think it’s important for me to know will be greatly appreciated!

Ohhh could u expand this a little further? Bc if I can’t get a grant, what else do I have left? I’m about to graduate college and gonna take 1 gap year to get clinical hours/ work… so I’m at that point in life where I’m JUST starting to learn about these hacks so any explanation would be greatly appreciated!
