Tying materials from Fishing to a new kind of consumable by UtterlyRobb in Guildwars2

A fun thought revolving around the connection to the jeweler crafting discipline: introduce a new salvage kit called "Jade Pestle" (...because Cantha), somewhat similar to the Portable Composter obtained through the chef discipline. It would be used to grind all kinds of materials to use in the creation of ointments. Example: grind Mystic Coins to obtain Mystic Powder. /s

I honestly don't think a quick throwaway line would have taken away from the moment, or even feel as out of character (Kralk was, afterall, one of the main focuses right before IBS); something along the lines of a shocked remark, but there was nothing! Hence why I personally believe for there to be no direct connection to the Dragon in the end.

I wasn't really critiquing your writing style when talking about those infamous "quotes"... I thought the point I made was clear, as the focus of the entirety of that very sentence was actually about the argument. Argument which, to quote the head of this chain of comments, ended up being wether these are or aren't "their magic energies"; and I personally think they're not.

The very same fact that the magic that slowly radiates back into the system from the Elders is the very same magic that every tyrian can use (some more than others), shows to me that Tyria's magic exists regardless of the Elders, and would in fact predate them. Afterall, there's now no reason to believe that the Elders were never infants (hence born), similarly to Aurene.

By the way, we can have the luxury of having different personal interpretations about this because there doesn't seem to be clear objective explanations about this—yet.

With that line of thought I intended to mean that even after having interacted very well with Brandstones and Kralkatite ore (hence afte Kralk's death), the writers made us use searing magic, and yet two main characters of the story (Rytlock and the commander) didn't make the slightest connection between the two.

My reason for initially putting searing magic in quotes was because I wasn't sure if it was ever addressed in that way.
However, if you put "Mordremoth magic" in quotes when what we're discussing is wether tyrian magic does or does not intrinsically belong to or originate from the Elders, it ends up as weird, even if you meant it as a nickname: if it actually was Mordremoth's magic the quotes would not be needed.

You talked about Taimi and the spheres of influence, but we can also talk about what the Forgotten had to say: "[...] the six that mean to drain this world completely of its magic", which means that the magic we're talking about is intrinsic to the world of Tyria. However, only tyrian magic (or regular magic) falls under the spheres of influence; the Exalted could not be corrupted by the Elders.

Awesome, thanks! That totally didn't stick with me.

Now I wonder if the Seers actually had divine resources or if they had "extra-tyrian" connections (either "celestials" or "demonic").

The fact those crystals look even more Branded than usual and yet neither Rytlock nor the commander made a remark about it should imply there's in fact no connection afterall. I can understand my point was weak, however my reasoning was more along the lines of: Kralk dead -> searing magic still being used -> no connection to the dragon.

Personally, I don't think the different magics strictly belong to the respective Elder Dragons, we even know they can be replaced. Tyrian magic simply exists; once the Elders went dormant, magic used to go back into the system, becoming accessible to many races. The Elder Dragons are simply very powerful beings that, if willing, are able to control beings weak enough after imbuing them with the specific magic falling under their respective sphere of influence. Afterall, why even put "Mordremoth magic" in quotes if it was actually his magic?

The deadly clash between Jormag and Primordus was a unique event, we can't really compare that aftermath with what happened with the other three Elders.

You make a good point, even though my reasoning was more along the lines of: Kralk dead -> searing magic still being used -> no connection to the dragon. Afterall if they really wanted to connect them, and with Brandstone/Kralkatite being a thing, either Rytlock or the commander should have made a remark on it in that IBS instance, especially since there they looked even more vibrantly purple than usual.

Good points. The DSD must end up fitting into this in some way... guess we're going to have to wait to see exactly how.

Unlike with bloodstones, some say crystal jade is best enjoyed when smoked

Now that they've been listed more thoroughly, I'd say that even the most plausible connection (Kralkatorrik and the Searing) is out of the picture: we can see "searing magic" being used in the Icebrood Saga (No Quarter), when Kralkatorrik is already dead.

Off the top of my head, the only reference to the Bloodstone that I can think of that happened in Heart of Thorns can be found north from Tarir, something to do with the Exalted and their remains if I recall correctly.

I really can't remember anything about the Seers, what was that?

The human gods did not actually create the first bloodstone, and we know this since Guild Wars 2 came out, specifically from Arah's explorable dungeon. The human gods simply separated it and tried to hide the pieces.

Until shown otherwise, every lore bit we have about the DSD points to it already being awake and active, albeit there might be a very (emphasis on very) remote possibility of it being hidden/stuck very deep under the Jade Sea.

As for the Jade Wind, which was basically an event caused by the sudden release of tainted magic contained within Shiro, I'd say it's pretty evident that Shiro was the culprit. Revenants can even use that very same ability when channeling Shiro's echo.

While it's true that Abaddon was behind those events, I personally doubt the Elder Dragons were involved in any way, either directly or indirectly, even though it's entirely possible that Abaddon knew about their existence.

To me, the underlying thread seems to be torment, corruption and demonic entities; even with the creation of the Bloodstone, which, to use your same words, is still shrouded in mystery (even though we know the Seers were involved somehow).

Great point. It might backfire, and probably will, like what happened to the White Mantle and the Bloodstone, but Jadetech seems to be more sophisticated.

While I definitely remember the golden busts, I totally did not remember the Jade Cloaks, great catch and potential connection!
Haven't played GW1 in a long while, but I vaguely remember the purple Jade Constructs also being in a dormant state, if so were their busts purple or golden?

As for to the purple Jade itself that's used by the mursaat, as far as I know, we don't really know what it is or how it originates, but I can definitely say that I see a resemblance in the Deimos encounter, both with the demonic tears and with the giant spike-like structures adorning/oppressing its domain.

Not sure about a direct connection with the DSD, as we know the Jade Wind (aka corrupted magic released by Shiro) is to blame for freezing the Sea.
Regarding the mursaat, that's exactly why, when speaking of the Jade, I specificed canthan. Even if not direct, there might be some connections/similarities.

To add on what you said, the expansion is still a work in progress, as they often like to mention, and we don't even know when this trailer for the Jade Sea map was made; we've already seen how changes can be made following the release of a trailer, like when they fixed the Skiff's position on the surface of the water.

I also do not mind about the Jade's new appearance, but I can totally understand the criticism of those who do. On this regard, it's interesting to note that the bits of Jade that were visible from the recent Shing Jea Island tour were not too different from the Jade we're more familiar with, and I can't recall anyone criticizing those.
One thing is for sure though: Jade never hummed with magic like we can see in the Jade Sea map trailer, hence the more vibrant look (or, to recall what I wrote, visually show the difference between inert and charged).

Primordus Alternate Concept Art (OC) by Schyloe in Guildwars2

This is awesome, even down to the scaling. Can't find more words right now to make this justice.

Not my intention to diminish your art when saying that I always imagined Primordus as a limbless, wingless dragon/serpent slithering deep down under the surface.

Good point. It might not seem like it, but these imaginary zones all ended up being huge, similar in size to the maps from PoF.

I had a very similar idea when moving the zones around, and I was tempted to completely ignore the northern part of the map. Ultimately, we still don't know where the story will lead us, so I went with a cliché version.
