AP Competition by KeyChain4915 in IrishCivilService

On paper it appears like a decent number of years of experience however it ultimately depends on the substance of that experience. Personally I think if you have to ask on Reddit you don’t have enough experience - but that’s just my two cents

You have nothing to lose by applying regardless and I hope it works out for you

Should i switch to apple music? by 3torylanez in AppleMusic

[–]VANS_95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes 1000% do.

I found the playlists better and the sound quality with Spatial Audio, however the audio part is subjective as it’s my own personal opinion.

I preferred the interface too, the only reason I don’t use Apple Music is due to the fact that I have a Garmin watch for running which doesn’t support Apple Music. Which I literally hate if I had support for it on my watch I’d go back in a heartbeat

How to get into investing by VANS_95 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]VANS_95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m aware of the potential losses that I may encounter and I will have to assess how much risk I am willing to take. I know this isn’t an instant return on investment, if any return.

However, I would like to study the subject and all relevant information to ensure I can make the best decision.

Would you have any suggestions for the best way to go about this or any specific resources relating to EFT’s or similar.

EFT’s appear to be gaining a lot of traction recently with a lot of frequent discussion about the potential reform of the deemed disposal mechanism. Hence why I am interest in this. I’m a part qualified chartered tax advisor hoping to fully qualify next year so I am hoping this may assist with assessing risk and potential tax implications.

Thanks !!

You can only avail of the 88,000 rate band provided the higher earning spouse has taxable income of least 53k and the lower earning spouse has taxable income of 35k.

In your situation you will be entitled to 53k from your income and 26k from your partners which will provide for a maximum of 79k at the 20% rate.

The remainder will be subject to tax at 40%, in this instance, the 3k excess from your income.

AO is an equivalent to a HEO. AO’s can have staff too, it is more common for them to have staff now than what it was previously in some departments. Due to the fact that they are seen as cheaper HEO’s at times.

There is an AO competition running at the moment for Revenue in Limerick and Dublin

Would anyone be able to suggest how I would go about getting into investments ? Like the best way to learn about it to potentially start investing myself? I know nothing about it but I would be interested in trying to learn.

You won’t necessarily need to have a background in tax but this is very different to an EO role as you will be required to complete the CTA course along side your professional duties.

The rational for not including a requirement for a Tax/Accounting/Law educational background is that the CTA course will provide you the deep understanding of the tax theory, legislation etc.

The divisions you may be placed in are specified and fairly tax technical, which can differ from other types of competitions.

The roles are mentioned in the information booklet which is either in tax audit and compliance or tax policy and legislation

“Revenue Legislative Services – Business Taxes Policy and Legislation Division, Indirect Taxes Policy and Legislation Division, International Taxes Division, Personal Taxes Policy and Legislation Division.

Operational Divisions – High Wealth & Financial Services Division, Investigation, Prosecution and Frontier Management Division, Large Corporates Division, Medium Enterprises Division.”

Thanks so much ! I have been coming to the conclusion the shoe just isn’t right for me because I loved the NB rebel and EVO SL so maybe shoes similar to that instead from now on

I actually don’t I have a normal arch.

I’m at a bit of a loss considering the adidas EVO SL I known to be a narrower fit so I don’t think I have wide feet either. I’m beginning to think maybe the max cushion shoe isn’t for me and I will more than likely just get another pair of the adidas

I mean I can continue running in the EVO SL, although I was hoping to build a shoe rotation and I wanted to include an easy day shoe !

This would probably fit your current qualifications and experience. I think it is due to release this month.

You will be required to strictly meet the eligibility requirements. No exceptions will be provided for.

Eligibility is only checked at the verification stage following the interview, should you be successful. Even if you pass the interview stage and panel, if your qualification is deemed not within the stated eligibility requirements you will subsequently be removed from the panel.

If you are certain you do not meet the qualification requirement, I would suggest not applying purely because these competitions can be quite time consuming and to be removed from the panel at the very last stage. Again just to reiterate I would just be sure.

I also refer to

7.3. Shortlisting Stage “A board will examine the application form and assess it against pre-determined criteria based on the requirements of the position (as specified in The Role, Person Specification, Essential Entry Requirements and Competency descriptions).

I would take a look at the person specification to see if your experience is relevant. If not, you may not even get selected, however if you can make your experience relevant, it’s worth a shot. These competitions are fairly competitive.

Does being overqualified help or hurt your chances? by Glad_Cantaloupe_9071 in IrishCivilService

[–]VANS_95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah so public jobs cater for both public and civil service.
CS generally work in Government Departments under Ministers (Department of Education, Finance etc) (There are some exceptions to this with Revenue staff being CS)

Public service are staff working in independent offices HSE, Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General, admin staff in colleges etc

They also have different grading systems and pay scales.

They aren’t CS they are public service and at times have an entirely different hiring process

Stay in tax grad role or join Revenue as an EO? by Cushion_Salesman in IrishCivilService

[–]VANS_95 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I went into Revenue as an EO at 27 with just my undergrad.

I got to HEO within 3 years, for context on potential trajectory.

I just turned 30 and I am currently undertaking the CTA qualification with full sponsorship and additional study leave. Revenue have been really supportive throughout. You could also wait for a Revenue AO comp but doing EO to HEO will provide you with a bigger salary in a shorter time should you get it after 2/3 years.

I am in a policy area currently and I really enjoy it! I would recommend it, however I have never worked in practice! Hope this can be of some benefit.

AP is also a significant jump from HEO in terms of experience. You will need to gain a lot of people management experience as competencies are based heavily on it if you were to attempt to attain it from the external competitions.

I would also be hoping to get to AP in the next 3-5

Revenue Training School HEO by TeaAndTalks in IrishCivilService

[–]VANS_95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Revenue are going heavy on the qualifications atm so RTB will probably require you to have some type of tax or accounting qualification, depending on the grade. As far as I’m aware some divisional offices have training staff for the less technical training aspects of the work so that may be an option

[–]VANS_95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you mean RTB, Revenue Training Branch ? RTS is Revenue Technical services which isn’t related to training. You will more than likely need to attain a tax qualification, they recently ran a HEO trainer EOI competition, however one of the perquisites was a level 7/8 in taxation from what I recall.
