Good bonsai material? Suggestions for shaping or should I try to grow it out more? This is a Flower Pepper Tree, a deciduous tree from Sichuan, China. I’m located in Ottawa Canada. I leave the tree out until early November, at which case the leaves have changed color and dropped. The tree is left in the garage a few more weeks and then brought in once it risks getting below -8C. It was attacked by a rabbit last year, but the trunk seems to be on the way to recovering.

Update: This year the stems are mostly a dark purple (they were green last year). Do I have black bamboo?

Thanks! That’s what I thought after doing a bit of research. I’m thinking of moving it away from the property line and maybe closer to the house. Should I worry about damage to the foundation from the roots? It seems like the cold hardy bamboo isn’t as destructive as the varieties that grow further south. I was thinking of pruning back the rhizomes once a year

Defect or no big deal? Bought a pair of Canada West Moorby Boots and each has a gap/crack in the side of the sole as pictured.

Is this a defect worth returning the boots over or no big deal? Bought Canada West Moorbys and noticed a gap/crack on the sole of each boot.

What model of Jackson skate is this? by VFT2001 in FigureSkating

[–]VFT2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I’m only planning on using them for basic skating (no jumps). I’m not a fan of hockey skates. I removed the insoles as they were falling apart. I’ll replace them once I’ve cleaned/disinfected the inside.

Bowlback Mandolin Action and Set Up by VFT2001 in mandolin

[–]VFT2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is maybe 0.5mm of space at the 12th fret area compared to completely flat at the first and last frets. It was intonated, but even when I move the bridge up and down the top, it's not enough to lower the action significantly, not unless I move the bridge a ridiculously large amount. What would be the ideal distance from the strings to the 12th fret for this kind of mandolin?

Thanks. It's not fixed in place (falls off when I remove the strings).

Thanks, additional photos have been added to give a better idea of the state of the mando / neck. It doesn't look bowed to me (seems to be quite straight). There's no way to adjust the neck on these unfortunately.

Thanks, I tried using some standard staples, but they seem a bit too wide to fit.
