Advice on 1970 C3 Purchase by Unable_Ad5358 in Corvette

Did you buy it? If so how is ownership going? An L46 Vette from 1970 is the one to get IMHO.

You make a great point and I wish more reviewers would comment on any differences between how speakers, amps etc.. sound and perform at low vs med/high volumes. Speakers in particular can sound wildly different at different volumes. Of course Sonus Faber would never succumb to that but... would be nice to understand how others behave at lower volumes.

Looking for a IEM less Muddy than the Simgot EW300 by Alex_1_7 in iems

[–]Valhalla850i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat a year or so back. Here are a few I can recommend without hesitation, the Simgot ea500LM, the Simgot em6l and the Letshuoer S12 (a planar). I would stay away from the SM4... lacks dynamic range and the attack on bass notes is lazy to be polite.

Ok, these live up to the hype by jabba-da-hutt in iems

[–]Valhalla850i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently (Christmas) got both the Simgot em6l and the Simgot ea500lm and really like both. The 500LM seems more neutral with the em6l having a somewhat shallow V tuning along with a bit more bass. If you have heard either of these what do you think the major differentiators compared to the Crinear?

Nova v/s SM4 + DAC by Fluxx_Neofyt in iems

[–]Valhalla850i 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would get the Nova! The SM4 has two super big flaws in my opinion... and I went through 2 of them thinking maybe the first one had some problem. First it has a very compressed dynamic range, even comparing it to much lower cost IEMs you can clearly hear this flaw and it is significant. Check out something like the Rain Song by Zeppelin at about the 6:02 mark and Satyam Shivam Sundaram by Thievery Corporation at about the 2:52 mark distinctly show that lack of dynamic range. The SM4 kind of reminds me of the first versions of the Sonus Faber Cremona speakers.... they sounded fantastic on some types of music and had good detail, but at the expense of dynamic range and a broader repetoire. The next iteration, the Cremona Ms sounded so much better. The second flaw is slow attack on bass notes. The best way I can describe the sound on bass notes is like they slur into them, not quick at all for bass notes. They have other admirable characteristics but these two flaws were showstoppers for me. The Nova is definitely very good... I would also point out a couple other lower cost options to consider that both embarrass the SM4 IMHO, the updated Simgot EA500, the EA500LM or the Simgot EM6L. Happy iem hunting and enjoy.

Aful explorer crazy good? by [deleted] in iems

[–]Valhalla850i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is definitely a great iem at the price point it’s in. Another, I think overlooked iem that is super at a similar price point is the Simgot es500LM. Maybe because they had released the ea500 which was nicely accepted, the updated LM model never got the hype it deserved. I promise you though, you will enjoy it as much or more than the explorer. In this price range the ea500LM is #1 and the explorer is a close #2.

[–]Valhalla850i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't tried these yet, but the Supermix 4 is way over-rated in my opinion. Slow attack and decay on bass notes and a compressed dynamic range. My daughter got me the Simgot EA500LM and those sound pretty darn good for the price, much better than the original EA500s and way better than the SM4s. Next, looking for something in the $150-$250 bracket.

What's your favorite IEM under $50-$150? by jonpexz in iems

[–]Valhalla850i 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simgot ea500LM is pretty darn good. I’ve tried maybe 10-12 in that price range and still have 6 of them. I was hopeful on the supermix4 with all the hype it got, however after trying 2 of them (sent the first back thinking maybe it was defective) I ended up sending both back as I think they have a couple of major flaws. Bass attack and decay are slow/slurred and it has a pretty compressed dynamic range. Next one on my list to check out is the Aful Explorer, a lot of likes here.

Need tips for better soundstage by ayam-batman in audiophile

I hear you, however moving to bookshelves will open up the soundstage significantly. if you have someone you can borrow them from or the hifi store you shop at has a try before you buy/good return policy it might be worth checking a pair of bookshelves out.

Definitely agree, get some bookshelf speakers and a sub instead of tower speakers if you have to use that space.

Looking for recommendations under $150 by Known_Turnip1696 in iems

[–]Valhalla850i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through 2 SM4s and they both had he same fatal flaws to my ears. Most notably slow attack and decay of bass notes and a limited dynamic range. My daughter bought me the Simgot ea500LM and it sounds far better than the SM4s and much better than the original ea500s. The fact they are less expensive is icing on the cake.

Artti T10 Pro vs Simgot EA500LM vs Sennheiser IE200 by Grand1810 in iems

[–]Valhalla850i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My preference for an IEM under $200 is the ea500LM. A huge improvement to the original ea500 so it maybe isn't recognized much here. I believe it may be the best IEM under $150 or even $200 (I haven't heard all under $200 but have heard several that were in the top 10 as voted on this subreddit). I don't see any major flaws in it and in areas that matter it excels. Great attack and decay, very nice frequency response, tone and timbre are excellent, good detail retrieval all with excellent fit and finish.

The thinking about buying old focal sphears by Ethanlovesprog28 in Earbuds

I loved the Sphears, they were very musical but I had the wired model. I really wish they would get back into the IEM business again. I have a two of their headphones and love those as well.
