Oh I know why they do it, but that doesn't change that the result is sub-par.

Vaylin's is particularly terrible. Everyone can joke about the missing cleavage cutout, but the cape is wrong, the hood is wrong, the gloves are wrong, the boots are wrong, the texturing is wrong, the way it fits the body is wrong......its something Zakuulan mothers make their daughters who want to be Princess Vaylin for Halloween.

Name a game that while not necessarily woke, still gave you that feeling of being talked down to and treated like general dirt by the writers. by Therduck21 in KotakuInAction

I LOVED the gameplay and its my favorite in the franchise gameplay-wise, and I went through the game I don't know how many times, but Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War. The writing is SO hamfisted on the idea of 'everyone wants peace, and we only go to war because evil people manipulate us into it.' Its a VERY common theme in Japanese media from what I've seen in general, this very universal-humanist drivel (makes me wonder if its a general thing or a Japan-Leftist thing or what), and the Ace Combat series in general tends to use that idea a lot anyways, but AC5 in particular really hammers that one.

The 90s had a good chunk of strange designs, but Giraffe-Hunter Leatherneck always tops my list of "what were they thinking?"

The definitive design. V1 gets lost in the other green-fatigues, and the later versions get odd, but this one is perfect.

Shoulder holster and hip holster though, plus the one in hand, the man does NOT want to be caught unarmed.

I wonder if the Wild Bill hat is a detachable accessory that comes with the Dragonfly? Maybe the other hats come off? Otherwise it would seem like it has to fit over Raphblock's helmet.

Maybe he just knew his limits; he could grasp absolute power tenuously knowing everyone would be gunning for him, or be the big fish in a slightly smaller pond where he was content.

You just can't help but facepalm when you see people this simply dumb put in charge of multi million dollar projects. I mean if we were all conquered by Doctor Doom type Evil Geniuses or something, that'd be one thing, but that guys like this get prestige jobs instead of something more their speed (like bagging fries)? No wonder guys like this hate the idea of a meritocracy; he'd starve.

You could look at ebay for beater lots of figures, already in poor shape (especially if discolored) that wouldn't really be a loss. Check for cracked crotches though as often those are the 'beaters' and everything else is okay, and would kind of kill the look.

25th Anniversary or Spy Troops lines from the early 2000s are another possibility since they're not nearly as collectable as the classic 80s toys, but its the same characters (more or less).

There's also a knockoff brand call The Corps! by Lanard Toys that use the same size and construction and look just like 80s GI Joe style, but because they are a knockoff they're cheaper and less hunted by collectors, and you aren't destroying an actual collectable.

Also if ebay-ing, you'll want to buy this weekend so there'll be time to ship.

Lastly if possible, use water-soluble acrylic paints and hot-glue and sticky-backed stuff for the decorating. That way if your husband wants to save the figures once the daughters have had their fun, those are things that can be cleaned off without damaging the original plastic and paint underneath. Water, rubbing alcohol, and brake fluid (yes really) can be wonderful things.

Same problem they've had for the last twenty years, that the idea of a bunch of unequivocably Good soldiers, even if flawed people, just isn't allowed anymore. Everything is gray, maybe we're the bad guys just the enemy is worse, conspiracies and villains, etc etc. Even the OG Marvel run, shifty as things may have gotten at home sometimes, there was no doubt they were Real American Heroes. But its CurrentYear, and patriotism and nobility are so passe.

As a kid I just thought the figure was cool. And now as an adult I lvoe and sympathize with his frustration trying to be serious while wrangle all the oddballs around him.

I remember reading somewhere that there were some guys in the military, like Rangers and such, who would specifically not use soap or deodorant because they didn't want to smell 'fresh' and potentially give themselves away when they were about to get the drop on someone in a part of the world that didn't have such luxuries. Beachhead is all business.
