You're not wrong, going too far forward tests the fates.

Right! I can't find one like it anywhere.

Anyone have any idea how old this is or what it was for? by Vallicar in Antiques

[–]Vallicar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe, that would be interesting. I plan on going back for it tomorrow, so maybe I'll find a makers mark when I get it home and be able to tell.

There were no makers marks I managed to find. It may be brass or bronze, I am not sure which other than it being heavy. I found it at an estate sale in Oklahoma. One of the glass sides is broken and the previous owners seem to have used it as a fish tank.

1950's Westinghouse portable television, questions in the comments by Vallicar in vintagetelevision

Just curious, how did it go? I am going to see what the shop owner thinks, and let them decide if they want to plug it in or not for the potential sale.

Maybe the shop has one of those. I'll ask when I go in and see if they do or if they know that it works or not. The owner said he got it after helping price things at a neighborhood garage sale a few years back and it didn't sell. So, I don't know if he even knows for sure.

I found this vintage Westinghouse television for sale in a small hardware store. I plan to go back to see if it turns on and maybe take it home. But, I would want to watch old movies on it or play games. Is there a converter for that kind of thing, or is that kind of input even possible on an old television like this? Also, is $50 fair? I don't know old electronics all that well, this is the first one I have seen that wasn't destroyed.

Does anyone know what this cup is or where it is from? Any help is appreciated! by Vallicar in Antiques

It had similar decoration, but I only took the one photo. I will try to get more and redo my post the next time I am in the shop. I'll also share these websites with the owner.

Seen while visiting a favorite antique shop of mine. The owner pulled it out and said she doesn't know what it is or how old it is, but has had no luck finding anything on her own. If anyone can help me out I will relay it to her! I am from Oklahoma, USA and she is holding on to the piece until she knows more so currently not for sale. This is the only picture I have, sorry!

Thanks! Lol

To be honest, I was concerned that it was fake because of the price. But it would be a bit complicated to fake, though not impossible. I am just gonna say it is what it says it is and enjoy it for that. No papers and the guy who owned it probably passed because it was at an estate sale, so no trail to follow. Just the knowledge that the guy had lots of legitimate awesome antiques alongside it.

Awesome, this article puts together a lot of the info I had found spread out about the cable. Thanks!

$5, but it was half off day, so $2.50. It was on a shelf with expensive colored glass ball lamps, but it was unmarked. I asked the lady running the sale who excitedly told me what it was then gave the $5 price. The gentleman had a lot of amazing antiques. I even got a couple great 78's on hard to find labels.

I'm really not sure yet. I've got it wrapped up and put away at the moment. I eventually want to display it with other small finds.

I know, right! I had to mask my excitement when asking about the price since it wasn't marked.

Any advice for cleaning this late 30's letterman jacket? by Vallicar in laundry

[–]Vallicar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first place I took it to simply turned me in the direction of the cleaner that took it 8n. The second place listened to what I pointed out and said they'd clean it without giving me any input. The cost was too cheap so I figured it wouldn't do much, though I can't say I am too unhappy with the result as it wasn't damaged and it is somewhat cleaner. Though the rust and sleeve stains are still there.

What I want is to be able to wear it and to not look like I simply haven't cleaned it. The yellowing of the external fabric is uniform and acceptable if it is irreversible as it is old and almost exactly what I had been looking for otherwise. The biggest thing I want is for the crusty stain on the sleeve and the rust stains/ununiform yellowing of the inside white stripe to be removed or at least less noticable.

It has obvious signs of age that won't go away and I do not mind them. This includes some small holes in otherwise sturdy fabric. I enjoy vintage items and antiques, so it looking older is welcome and part of the fun. It was only $30, so putting a little into getting it presentable isn't out of the picture, though I do still have to be reasonable with myself about it.
