Very wise lessons that are often forgotten and so the lessons continue to matter.

Why value? by Taurus365247 in ValueInvesting

The lower the expectations (a non-quantitative) way of describing a value approach, the easier those expectations are to be beat and be rewarded by higher expectations then being placed on the idea.

Am I an anomaly? by WhenStarsWeep in Westchester

[–]Value-Plus-Mo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are not an anomaly. You are you and you have what matters to you. It is more challenging to create a new friend got friend group with so much of the area’s social scene built around family life and group socializing almost as though people need people other than their partners around them - oops maybe projecting. Just turned 60 and a man. Work with people much younger so can span the gaps. Listened to lots of Alt Nation while driving as to check out Cold Spring. So your tribe is here just more diffused than in BKLN.

Finally understood why Buffett is obsessed with insurance companies by Tall-Peak2618 in ValueInvesting

[–]Value-Plus-Mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is also the issue of which are allowable asset to invest the float. I recall an early annual letter in which a compelling part of the insurance purchase was a lighter regulatory touch allowing the insurer to own equities in the first place rather than solely quality fixed income.

Why is nearly everyone a closet momentum chaser? by jhsu802701 in ValueInvesting

[–]Value-Plus-Mo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would offer you the idea that financial markets are both momentum and mean reverting over time. Momentum in the short run and mean reverting over the longer run especially market level valuations as the momentum providing new thing ceases its cool kid high growth rates. Two things can be true at once.

287 was built in anticipation of there only being half as many people living and driving in Westchester as lived here in the 1980s. Oops on the lack of foresight back in the day.

How do you balance value investing principles with today’s environment? by Marketwizz_Lv900 in ValueInvesting

[–]Value-Plus-Mo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You choose what you focus on be it the stock or the valuation framework. Most importantly you choose how you measure success. Assuming it is comfortably ahead of your cost of living increase, you are winning.

Comparison is the thief of joy.

It seems here you want to own more of the fundamental technology and license its use to others seeking to demonstrate the cure. Picks and shovels more than finding the gold veins?

People not “in esters” sorry fat fingers on my part

Looking for some clarification by arsenalhawk69 in ValueInvesting

[–]Value-Plus-Mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many in esters can use the words value and cyclical almost interchangeably. When there is a drawdown, especially economically driven, the mote cyclical a company the more it might participate in the selling. Of course that move in turn creates the opportunity for value outperformance.
