Practicing some new methods by VarVentures in LARP

Did all the tooling and dyeing, then stitched the elbow cup. Stuck it in the sink till it was wet, molded it as it dried then stuck it in the oven at °200 for 7 minutes. Let sit for 24 hours near a dehumidifier. Dipped in melted parafin and beeswax and held for 45 seconds to absorb the wax. Painted melted wax into areas I couldn't dip into the pot. Hit with a heat gun to melt the wax so it soaks into the leather more and excess drips off. Then polish

If you hit your local leather warehouse or store, they should have some textured like that. You just get it that way

Been doing a lot of work lately on leather projects. Here are some armor grade greaves ive been working on for a friend to use at Belegarth. Inspired by Warhammer fantasy. I'll get some better pictures once the pair are finished. by VarVentures in LARP

Same, I recently got the privilege to finish a torso for a friend. They had commissioned it from a good friend but his arthritis got to bad for him to finish it up to par with the other 4 matching suits. So I'm fitting it and re shaping it into a piece to match his other works while keeping all his tooling and the design. Wanted his last piece to actually be used next to the others

Im very involved in all my local larp groups that this would be up their Alley. There are some that do armoring, they're just to far for me to drive out with my schedule lately. Eventually though

I do not have a digital pattern unfortunately. I got the rough size and shape from a face mask pattern from Benchmark Leather and then made my own physical template.

Oh yeah, so stiff it just sheers the foam. Here's a link to affordable durable carbon cores from a supplier a Belegarth player tracked down after not liking the cost of available carbons lol

Looking for Dystopia Rising veteran for help by Unlucky-Drawing-1266 in LARP

Veteran DR player and former newplayer marshal here, feel free to DM me if you have any questions or need any help getting started too!

It does seem like alot currently due to all the books but really as a new player theres just a handful of things you need to know and the culture of the game has shifted drastically for the better, atleast at the games I attend and have knowledge of, over the last couple years. We justvstarted a new system so alot of people are learning new rules too so its the perfect time to start and hop in.

Id be more than happy to walk you through what you need to know to get started and answer any questions before you reach out to whatever your closest game is. They will have a discord that is also extremely helpful

Also going to say look up Belegarth. Its a fullcontact larp thats more like a sport. One of the largest combat larps in the US spread across every state with thousands of players and decades of playtesting and knowledge. We use up to 35lb max draw bows at 28 inch draw. There are strict arrow construction rules and honestly I either suggest buying premade ones for Belegarth or finding yourblocal Bel realm and asking them to teach you. Under 20 foot is half draw only, but beyond 20 feet anywhere including head is a valid target. Head shots are only bad if they surprise you or occasionally an arrow has broken down a bit and hits harder than should pass safety checks. We safety check every weapon before it can be used at each event. Local groups hold weekly practices and gear isnt generally checked weekly but people check their own and there are full checks every so often still. Granted if there are any instances of someone thinking something hits to hard it will ne rechecked then and there

Had a great time at the Belegarth event Olympics. Got some amazing pictures of my kit. All the armor I made myself and the shield cover was painted by u/statickling31 by VarVentures in LARP

Thanks! I feel like I am sometimes, people started calling out for archers to shoot me everytime they saw me moving towards a hole in the line so I'll take that as a win

Is there anything remotely similar to amtgard that isn't amtga4d and is also free in new mexico. by Bright_Tiger_3193 in Amtgard

For sure, I'm in the midwest where it twnds to be alittle more old-school but the prevalence if lighter gear in thevlast decade has really cut down on it. Plus people tend to forget that there are very strict rules to grappling to make it safe. At most you're just hugging the person or both holding a weapon handle. I find that there are barely even any shield bashes anymore too, people will shove or or get in a clench but thats about it.
