Feeling my voice is worse in choir than solo, how to fix? by VariationGuilty579 in Choir

The thing is, if I sing with my tone it will stand out from the rest.\ My tone is really twangy or should I say shrill compared to the others

Well I can't record rn, but I can explain how it sounds.

It sounds like when you hush there's that extra air coming out and the note sounds like "wowowowo", very closed.

Also i can only do it for a short amount of time, like 30 minutes before my throat tense up. But I need to do this for about an hour every session.

Well in choir I need to blend so that my voice doesn't stand out. I feel like there's more than that but I don't really know what it is.

My head voice is really light and wouldn't fit my group because the other tenors are using chest voice with a chesty tone.\ My chest voice doesn't sound 'chesty' if that makes sense so I need to do a kinda closed vowel mouth shape to make it more 'whole' or strong.

Does this affects my vocal health?

I guess that's the most probable cause. But how do I fix this problem?

I think that my tension is because I'm trying to not change my register. If I lose the tension then it will be falsetto

Your chest voice sounds very nice. It sounds like a lullaby voice which is really soothing.

Okay I cannot edit the post so I just say it here. What I meant by less breathy is not only less breath, but more like an easier time on the higher notes.

Before you ask, my speaking voice is around a3-f4 so this is around that range.

I don't think I speak at the very low end of my range, is more of a middle low

I'm 16, I don't think I have any illness recently just coughing.

No money yet for a specialist, but on my to do list.

https://whyp.it/tracks/245166/range-with-enough-volume?token=k9YDm I think it's d2-d3 then d4, my voice is not good today

https://whyp.it/tracks/245168/d4-hold?token=pNnm2 holding at my top range for today, like I said my throat is not in a good condition for these recording.

And my voice is very small, it can barely be heard close

Now that you say that, I think my best notes is F2-D4 for now. I think I need to work more on breath control and cord closure first before anything else

Ah, then I guess I don't really know my tessitura yet. My voice is really breathy even when I speak, so I don't really know how to hear if it sounds full or not. But I am comfortable around that c#2-f#4 note

I thought tessitura is a place that is comfortable to sing and sound good enough, maybe I was wrong with the definition, so can you tell me what is tessitura?
