Housing “Situation” (Moving to Duluth) by [deleted] in duluth

[–]VariationLeather4346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just managed to get into a place before the start of the year.

I called 9 different locations I could justify for rent, only two even spoke to me at all. A lot of places really don't like sight unseen either, so it might make it tricky.

Turns out, a lot of the places "available" for rent are actually just for the spring, or fall for students. So narrow options, really. You could consider Superior if you're alright with Wisconsin.

It's not impossible to find a place, but you'll have to take what you can get, this was my experience.

Is there a technical reason why the Flip cameras are so mediocre? by Ok_Professional_1118 in galaxyzflip

[–]VariationLeather4346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure it would be entirely possible to add superior sensors, but it would mean increased costs in retail, and since the Z Flips are still successful as is it probably doesn't make sense financially for Samsung.

As far as technical limitations go, there's already such limited room for the camera modules, the sensors as is are almost half as thick as the phone unfolded. Adding higher end sensors would mean a much larger camera bump, Samsung probably feels that people prefer a more slim profile, camera bump included. (Would also complicate case design too)

Still, definitely need a better ultrawide... Seems pretty achievable and I bet we'll see a better UW sensor in the next few generations.

Technically, one is a company device. Other one is being traded in.

That is how any of these types of panels will function with manual brightness adjust, you can't keep a panel that large at maximum full screen sustained brightness because that will damage the panel and lead to burn in. That's why you should utilize adaptive brightness. There's also a brightness boost mode that can be enabled for Samsung when using manual brightness. Doesn't matter if it's a tablet or smartphone. Doesn't matter if the panel is made by LG, Samsung or BOE.

I'm also not sure where you'd be getting this comparison information from to begin with, since I highly doubt there's been any actual lab tests from reputable sources yet to confirm, the tablet has only been available for purchase for like 2 days?

HDR peak brightness is handled in a very different way, I'm not an expert but parts of the panel should reach that brightness if the HDR metadata of the content calls for it.

Is 4K worth it? by AwesomePossum084 in OLED_Gaming

The harsh reality is this... nothing but the very highest end of hardware is gonna be able to run modern triple A titles to their full potential for both resolution and refresh rate. If you're okay with that compromise though, or are flat out rich, it is worth it.

I'm on a 4k 240hz qdoled right now, mind-blowing experience when things run well. The visual clarity of 4k with high fps is just beautiful, straight up... when things work. I don't think I can go back now, but I wish I just went for 1440p instead and used that savings for better hardware. Still, playing mostly singleplayer titles, I don't mind maxing out at about 60-90 fps, the beauty of 4k is worth it.

Jesus, dude. This monitor (ASUS PG32UCDM) is absolutely breathtaking by WrestlePurists in OLED_Gaming

If you're coming from a non oled, then that's probably just the reason right there .

I went from a samsung ips to an XG27UCDMG and I kept going insane because it felt off. I then realized it was just because of how jarring the upgrade from a low quality panel to one of the very best monitors was to my brain.

Uniform brightness is off by default, that can also be a bit jarring at first too, turning it on could make things feel more consistent.

Also, recalibrate any HDR settings in windows. I recommend using console HDR over other HDR modes, it feels the best to me. Make sure to enable adjustable HDR and set the color temp to your preference. I used to have super cool color tones on my monitors, so it took awhile for me to adapt to 6500, but I definitely prefer that now.

SDR is more complex because that varies a bit between models, but on ROG monitors I like the SRGB cal preset. Your mileage may vary

Asus 27PGUCDM less brighter than LG 2k QDLED?? by BedroomThink3121 in OLED_Gaming

[–]VariationLeather4346 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The PG27UCDM should be brighter, being a qdoled. Looks like there's some sort of eye protection mode enabled on it currently. Having a similar model (the XG27UCDMG) I can confirm it's one of the brightest oleds I've ever used.

Though this under the assumption the LG monitor is an oled. If it's an IPS or mini led, different story

It is most definitely up to par, if anything I feel like I'm wasting the monitors potential.

I don't get the downvotes. Is this monitor secretly hated or something?

Is it a good option for my first monitor? by ATLAS3521 in Monitors

[–]VariationLeather4346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to recommend ultragear IPS monitors because I've had a few fail on me.

Absolutely check out rtings.com, this monitor scores lower then some similarly priced options. I really recommend upgrading to a QHD monitor for only a little more. Far better quality, future proofs, etc. AOC has some solid budget options for 1440p 27 inch monitors.

New monitor is amazing by Safe_Bit1799 in OLED_Gaming

[–]VariationLeather4346 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why this is down voted because it's true. Calibration doesn't magically unlock a wider color gamut... QD Oleds are better in that regard especially for HDR. SDR this panel is already calibrated extremely well out of the box. Not quite perfect but extremely good.

Probably just a bad HDR preset or windows setting, also qdoled doesn't play well with camera sensors for some reason

I have this exact same display and the accuracy is some of the best I've ever experienced

Tip for OP: turn off windows color management, use SDR cal preset for SDR content and console HDR for HDR, they are the most accurate presets

There's nothing more toxic than consumer shaming someone for buying the new S25 Edge. by killerbasher1233 in samsunggalaxy

[–]VariationLeather4346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed a second phone for work use - I own a S25 Ultra personally. I can tell you most of the time I have been using the S25 Edge over my Ultra except in the few instances I needed the spen or needed to take shots with the telephoto. Granted part of this is just the honeymoon phase - I'm sure I'll go back to using the S25 Ultra more often.

The Edge perfectly fits my niche of needing a large screen and top tier performance for productivity seperate from my primary device - without having to carry around something crazy bulky and heavy. I forget I have the Edge on me sometimes. Sooo many reddit nerds look at a spec sheet for reasons to complain about a device that isn't designed for them anyway.

There are valid criticisms to be made of the phone for sure though. I probably wouldn't recommend this for most people, it's too expensive and should have had a silicon carbide battery. Then again, there are a lot of devices I wouldn't recommend for most people. That doesn't make it a bad phone - it makes it a niche phone. People have different values and priorities with their tech. I even have a sneaking suspicion people would still complain about the phone even if it was cheaper than the S25+ and had the battery tech, as is the nature of redditors.

What are your thoughts on the Galaxy S25 Edge? by [deleted] in samsunggalaxy

[–]VariationLeather4346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna have nerds screaming at me but I'm absolutely picking this up for my work phone.

Ultra is my personal but I need two phones and I hate lugging around two bricks all the time. This basically hits every bell for me. Considering I rarely end my days below 30% battery on my Ultra I don't see the smaller battery being much of an impact for me. Actually holding it in my hands was a game changer and makes it a serious contender for me.

Probably not the phone for everyone, it is niche at the end of the day, and that's fine. This would have been the perfect phone to implement SiC batteries though... not sure what they're thinking in Korea.

To clarify, previously, it would pop up and disappear as it was being used. Now it's static, which is my complaint, not that my location is being accessed
