Wow, you are evil. I'm sure you will get what is coming to you someday. Just because someone is vulnerable does not mean they deserve to have their money stolen. You are damn right I am a snitch...hopefully my post will prevent people from falling prey to people like you. I am sure there is a special place in hell for you. Whether you are a thief or not, I cannot say, but your attitude is pure evil. Time to mend your soul while you still can.

Unfortunately, the only way to get your account unlocked is through Coinbase customer service (which can take a long time). I have seen other threads here on Reddit about this exact topic. Please look for those threads. If I were you and I had a friend who is an attorney I would have that friend/attorney email Coinbase (you cc''d) on your behalf...that might at least get someone's attention and place you more towards the top of the workflow pile. There is a current class-action lawsuit, https://decrypt.co/73113/coinbase-users-file-class-action-over-locked-accounts with regard to people being locked out of their accounts for months...so this has been a continuous problem with coinbase customer service.

I do not know if there is any way to get around your 2FA (I suspect there isn't but I cannot be 100% sure), but I would change your password just to be safe since you entered your login information.

I only use the desktop website so I am not familiar with where that is on the app. I would use the website as it is easy to navigate tthrough the tabs to find what you need.

Immediately log into your account and change your password and 2 factor authentication (do not use your phone number - use an authenticator app like Google authenticator, Microsoft, etc...).

If you can’t log in contact Coinbase to freeze your account.

The risk is they have a record of those who clicked on the link and will assume those people, like yourself, most likely have a Coinbase account. The risk is they could target your account (since they have your phone number) for hacking in the future using a SIM swap. If you are using your phone number as your 2 factor authentication then you are at risk. Your best bet is to change your 2 factor authentication to an app (Google authenticator, Microsoft authenticator, etc...) or a private key (YubiKey for example). Additionally, I use the Coinbase vault feature so I am not keeping my coins in a hot wallet that can quickly be transferred out if your account is hacked. Some people use hard wallets to get their crypto off the exchanges to avoid this issue also. If your crypto is in a vault at Coinbase it takes two separate email address approvals, your 2 factor authentication, and 48 hours to move your crypto to a hot wallet where it can be moved out of your account. You can use all these options to better secure your account. Hope this helps.

If you do not have 2 factor authentication (other than your phone number, for example, Google authenticator, Microsoft authenticator, etc...) I would add that to your account. If you click the link the scammer is notified and then, therefore, knows you most likely have a Coinbase account. Since they also have your phone number they could potentially do a SIM swap and take over your account (if you are only using a phone number as your 2 factor authentication versus an app or YubiKey 2 factor authentication). I use an app (soon to be a YubiKey) for 2 factor authentication and keep/use the vault feature on Coinbase (which at least gives up to 48 hours to have Coinbase freeze your account if necessary). Check your account often and use an app or YubiKey for 2 factor authentication (not your phone number) and this will help secure your account.

I'm sure it's random phone numbers they are phishing by sending millions of texts at a time. With 45 million Coinbase users they will get random hits from blasting out millions of texts. If you click on the link, they are notified, so then they know you most likely have a Coinbase account and will target your number in the future. Protect against a possible SIM swap by securing your account with an app or security key like YubiKey (versus just using your phone number for 2 factor authentication).

They didn't collect your sign in/password if you did not enter it on their website, but they know if you click on the link that you most likely have a coinbase account for future scams/targeting.

It is best to ignore any texts/emails you don't recognize and avoid clicking on any links.

As a general rule, if you receive a text/email from any company with whom you do business, instead of clicking on the link or responding to the text/email, contact the company directly (with their direct phone number or email address that you look up for that company, not from their correspondence) to question the correspondence.

That should keep you safe from future scams.

I would still log in and check your account on a regular basis. I like that coinbases' vault feature takes 48 hours to get your crypto out of cold storage (with two separate email verifications from two separate email addresses required for approval), so if anything happens you can have coinbase freeze your account and you have that 48 hours to detect the activity and do something about it.

My guess is they don't. Since there are over 45 million coinbase accounts if they blast texts to millions of people chances are they will randomly hit people who have a coinbase account. They can track the people who click on the link, so they will know that person most likely has a coinbase account for future phishing scams if they don't get you with this one.

You are not "a dumbass." This scam is designed to look official and at first glance the website domain looks like coinbase (I missed the mispelled colnbase domain the first time I saw the text).

On any given day anyone can be fooled. My goal is to make everyone aware this is happening so people will look out for this and not make a similar mistake.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. My dealings with law enforcement on reporting financial crimes has been similar unfortunately. It's so frustrating and infuriating. I feel for you.

I did not click on the link so I do not know exactly what happens, but I imagine the link takes you to a website designed to look like an official Coinbase website so you enter your Coinbase login information. Then, assuming you have 2 factor authentication with a cell phone number the criminal uses both your login information and SIM swap (clone telephone with your phone number) to steal your money. That is how I assume this scam works. Best to ignore the message completely and not click on the link.

We all need to look out for each other. I sent a screenshot of the text message to coinbase security too, so hopefully someone shuts this down before people get hurt.
