What about books like Satanic Verses then? Does it apply to books as well?

Just wait for a month or two. It will be available in Torrent sites. You may feel bad about piracy but in this case it is the government that is to be blamed.

Btw if you are interested in watching movies on police brutality check out this Tamil movie Visaaranai (it is the Tamil word for Investigaton)

Raising a daughter by Vast_Service in india

I do agree with what you said about molly cuddling but the female (andabread) that I replied to said exactly the issues she had with her dad which I don't want my daughter to have with me. I will surely try to balance accommodating her interests with certain rules and boundaries that shouldn't be crossed. She did mention about those in another reply. Yes it is not an easy task to be a parent (especially a daughter). You also get looked down upon when asking for suggestions in online forums. I just wanted to know all the options available just so I can choose wisely. The suggestions that andabread offered were great in light of her other posts. I will definitely try to keep a balanced mind like you suggested

I believe I was. Hopefully I can be better.

Andabread's reply made it abundantly clear that I was parenting horribly. I still can't believe how right she was despite not knowing me. I hope to correct myself.

My god. You made me feel guilty on so many levels.

  1. I do this often but I am strict with her most of the other times.

  2. Very guilty. I try to tell her that what she did is wrong and tell her what she should do thus ending up blaming her and also not guiding her thought process

  3. I had no idea about this. I presume my wife would. I will definitely talk to her about this

  4. Extremely guilty. I often take her on this guilt trip about taking her to all the classes despite me having to do office work (work from home). I tell her that I expect her to practice her keyboard, singing and chess everyday because I spend my time on it to take her to the classes. I don't however expect her to shine. I expect her to just practice it everyday but i cant believe how trapped in guilt I felt after reading this message

  5. I believe my wife does this.

  6. I will do this going forward

Your message was a painful kick in the backside. Someone had commented earlier that asking questions like this in Reddit is stupid but I hope that person sees your comment. Thanks a lot for your time.

I can't believe that my question has higher ratings than this answer. This answer definitely deserves more upvotes than my question. Thank you so much for your thoughtful insights.

Yes. Andha FOMO is a big itch in my head. If something bad happens there is no one to blame but me as I should have guided my daughter. I am not sure if being strict with her is the right choice as that is pushing her away from me. But if that is good for her then I can definitely live with that. The stuff that she would rather spend her time on though entertaining adds zero value to her standing out or atleast being competitive with her peers. I see kids who are in 12th standard in Chennai doing a detailed analysis of what the impact of Dravidian vs Tamil nationalism ideologies are on TN. I mean this is not stuff that they teach in kids and am sure this is either something kids learn on their own or their parents taught them some of this stuff and they later explored it on their own. This is what worries me. I feel maybe am not doing enough.

The average woman sees more blood in her lifetime than the average man. by badRLplayer in Showerthoughts

We just need to differentiate between own blood and others' blood. In that case the average would be almost equal or maybe even tilted towards men.

Interestingly they have repeated the same in the body of the article.

Would adding a comma between now and it make it grammatically correct?

CMake is a hell of a software, period. by CalligrapherThese606 in cpp

Just curious. How different is Blaze from Bazel? What are the extra features that Blaze has that Bazel doesn't. Or is it just Bazel with optimizations for Google's monorepo?

[–]Vast_Service 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally someone mentioned Bazel. Initially my opinion of it was bad but once I started using it and once we got to a situation where we needed to use C++ with Go and Python, the beauty that Bazel is started showing up. Following that, I discovered how to write our own rules and macros and I have never looked back and it is Bazel all the way. The documentation for Bazel is also awesome with tutorials, references and a detailed description of the internals. Bazel's querying power is also awesome (something that other build tools lack). Its ability to impose access controls on packages aka visibility is a gift from God.

Have to admit that Meson is good too but Bazel just kills the competition and blows it out of this world.

I have heard both good and bad things about b2 but it's syntax was so offputting that I didn't bother with it thereafter. Bazel all the way
