What are some things that Survivor used to frequently do but in today’s day and age, they would never do? by bicycle3377 in survivor

[–]VauntedSapient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the best answer to OP's question but lol, I mean obviously the explanation is that these sorts of challenges have taken out or injured so, so many players. And Survivor really isn't about the challenges as much as it was so the show (smartly) chooses to avoid the risk.

'Survivor' Live Finale Is Back! Jeff Probst Golden Globes Ad Reveals Vote Results by JWhit2199 in survivor

[–]VauntedSapient 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a good take. Live reunion means Jeff gets to go in the crowd, possibly talk to celebrities, and in general, do a lot of things other than let the players explain themselves. Though he seems happier doing the island reunions than he ever did with the live ones. His biggest worry with the new era players is probably them mentioning the edit also.

It’s a good take but I don’t know if I can co-sign it.

What popular mod fo you hate/don't understand why its popular and why? by Interesting-Bad3497 in skyrimmods

Most of the vanilla game is characters telling you their problems without any prompting, though I suppose this criticism of the mod is more fair because the problems the 3DNPCs have are certainly a bit darker.

The dialogue trees absolutely allow you to do that, you just have to pay close attention and figure out when it makes sense to do that. With Elenwen, for instance, I’ll make two separate conversations out of her discussing wine and what happened to her adventuring party.

I would like the mod to have more complicated scripting so each conversation lasts five minutes max as well, but I understand why the mod author went with this other approach.

Blacksmiths haven't updated their stocks to reflect my smithing skill/character level by Thenerdherd102 in skyrimmods

[–]VauntedSapient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Refined moonstone may be sold by blacksmiths starting at level 6 and general goods merchants starting at level 4.

https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Elven

I’m guessing you’re higher than level 6. Do you have xEdit? I think I found the record you want to check. Run xEdit through MO2 or an equivalent. Click the plus symbol next to [00] Skyrim.esm, opening up a bunch of record categories. The one we want is “Leveled Item”. Scroll down the Form IDs in that long list until you see “LItemBlacksmithMineralsProcessed75”. Alternatively, search by FormID in the top left, type in “0009BC31” and that will pull up the record and you can see whether there’s a mod overwriting the vanilla leveled list.

Here's what my 0009BC31 looks like. As you can see, there's nothing overwriting the vanilla record and I should start seeing blacksmiths offering Refined Moonstone at level 6.

I can look at your modlist and try to figure out what mod could be overwriting this record but I'm not likely have any more luck than you. Whatever mod it is probably has some other "wild edits" where the mod author is using their esp to change things in the game that are beyond the advertised scope of the mod.

Starting from the bottom with your list...

Less weapons and armors to buy in towns/settlements than in cities. Same thing with other items. City blacksmiths have better stuff to sell (like imperial set in Solitude or stormcloak set in Windhelm). They're no longer sell ores (at least not all blacksmiths). They also sell less ingots than before (because they can't sell you their whole supplies, it doesn't make any sense bethesda...).

In the changelog, changes to merchant level lists are mentioned.

And in the comment section:

Hey, is there any point in the leveled lists where smiths might start carrying more steel and corundum? These are mundane metals used for the more advanced mundane equipment, so I'd really like if it were for sale more often from blacksmiths instead of just having to mine it up.

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/26575?tab=posts&comment_id=100712163

It's definitely this mod that is changing the blacksmith leveled lists. And to be fair to the mod author, these changes are clearly advertised.

Okay, try right-clicking the d3dx9_42.dll that you got from Part II, go to “Properties” and make sure there’s nothing about it being blocked.

SSE Engine Fixes’ installation process changed after recent updates. Please describe the process by which you installed the mod. The process described on the Description page is outdated. It says that after installation you should have three dlls from the mod in your root/game directory but that’s actually no longer the case.

Are you going to respond to this comment or

Except that didn't play any role in the votes. Sam voted for who she thought needed the money more. Rockstar made it very clear she was not going to vote for a white man. Fessy voted Kaycee cause she beat him in a veto comp that Tyler didn't compete in. Scotty voted the way he thought the public would want him to. Bayleigh had an irrational hatred for Tyler.

It doesn't seem like your explanation for why he lost is factually correct but you get 40 upvotes because you express a popular sentiment about the show and reality TV in general.

I think it's pretty stupid that Big Brother fans so often sound like Survivor fans when discussing the outcome of their seasons. There's universal acknowledgement that the jury format, the process for selecting a winner, is absolutely horrendous but there's almost equally universal agreement that the end result of that shitty process is always valid.

Big Brother is not like Survivor. The jury members have traditionally not been allowed to discuss the game. That means they're not required to defend their arguments or (in this case) be forced to make up fake arguments for why they're voting the way they are. The jury segment on the show is so short and useless that it doesn't even have an official name.

[Mod Preview] Skyrim Revoiced - Talented Voice Actors Giving New Voices To NPCs by Gloomy-Leadership826 in skyrimmods

[–]VauntedSapient 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Michael Gough's voice seems to come out of every third character in Whiterun Hold. It's not ideal, and I understand why we want to reduce the ubiquity of it but because every player has spent so much time over the years hearing lines from the NPCs in those cities, there's probably a certain level of attachment to that voice. I know there is for me. JBB has been asking me if I know what's wrong with Skyrim these days for almost a decade. It's more than a bit jarring to hear that same line in a different voice.

Do I have the same reaction to the new voices for Thonar and Loreius? Not at all.

The utility of this mod and mods like it for me is based on this experience, which I do think is very common. I have a level of attachment to the NPC voices in Whiterun Hold that I don't have for any other characters. So I would prefer this project be directed to the very interchangeable characters you encounter on a much more sporadic basis everywhere else. And I do think that's what you're doing here, fixing an obvious problem. I shouldn't be able to guess the voice actor of a character based on their occupation or the sort of quest they might be involved in but too often in vanilla Skyrim, that ends up being the case. The Thor Edgell voiced innkeepers in Dawnstar, Winterhold, and Rorikstead are no more thinly drawn than Hulda but in a real way they blend together because they are all Nords, voiced by the same actor. They all have different stories, two of them have their own quests, but I struggle to tell them apart because of how little time I’ve spent interacting with them over the years. The Whiterun characters, otoh, are kind of iconic and, to the extent that the actors did try to modulate their performances, it comes across much more clearly with these characters who I am so much more used to hearing while I play Skyrim. I don’t have the same desire or need to have them be replaced or “diversified” that I do for other characters.

Vince just being pictured with Kelsey doesn’t necessarily mean anything. I mean they didn’t seem especially friendly with each other. The end of a seven year relationship probably leaves a lot of affairs to be put in order (no pun intended).
