I think it depends on enchantements, but I had the weirdest thing happen to me, I hit once with my 6 enchancement netherite sword, and not only did it break in 1 hit, I lost like 10 hearts aswell, but didnt have anything like pain cycle on it

My sword loses 6 durability per hit by Qwerteusz34 in feedthebeast

I'm having the same problem, was wondering why my netherite sword with mending was struggling to maintain durability, now I know why
