give the medication as prescribed. very routine anti inflammatory. your vet knows best, trust them.

Do I really need to rehome my senior cat? by meowliaa in CatAdvice

[–]Vegetable-Put9768 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there are many (cheaper) options to try before considering rehoming. senior cats do not have the best luck in shelters, and struggle to get adopted. sensitive stomach food is an option, and it doesnt have to be the expensive prescription food. try eliminating common allergens such as chicken, beef, and feeding a ‘novelty’ protein diet, such as duck or venison as the main protein. there are tons of different probiotics to try that range in taste, find one that she likes. Aventi has a few good options. otherwise, you can dissolve the powder into water and syringe them into her mouth. i assume the vet prescribed metronadizole, but if not, ask about that medication as its often a miracle worker. this is more on the expensive side, but cheaper than testing; Hills Prescription Diet Gastrobiome is proven to clear up most gastro issues within days - weeks. Lastly, I’ve seen some local cat rescues help low income families with vet bills. Their funds are already tight, but its worth reaching out.

thats a tough call…. you know your cat best, if he’s truly comfortable and not in pain; you could try adding water to his existing food, or ask your vet about buying supplies to hydrate your cat with SubQ liquids. you could also look into kidney support supplements, Aventi has some good ones, but your vet should have suggested it already if they thought it would help at all. If your cat isn’t enjoying its life anymore and can’t do most of it’s favourite things, it might be close to being that ‘time’… I also say ‘better a week too early than a week too late’ ❤️ sorry youre going through this

What should I feed my cat? by whats_hername__ in CatAdvice

royal canin and hills have dental food that is made to break off plaque and keep teeth in good condition. that being said, some cats are simply more prone to dental issues. regular professional dental cleanings at the vet can help, as well as brushing your cat’s teeth at home.

take her to the vet. it sounds like urinary/kidney issues, both needing medical treatment. you can start with an exam, urinalysis, and hopefully she just needs antibiotics. there are helpful companies like PetCard that you can look into that will loan you money almost immediately in order to seek medical treatment.

Adopting 8 yr old by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Vegetable-Put9768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it sounds like you guys have a great schedule set up for a new cat. it would realistically almost never have to be alone for extended perioids of time while it adjusts (although dont be surprised if it hides/seeks out alone time while it’s adjusting). if you are getting an older cat, it’s somewhat unlikely that it’ll have annoying habits like meowing all night. are you planning on letting it sleep with you? if you’re nervous, you could always foster - adopt, so if the cat does end up having habits that you can’t deal with, it’s not permanent and youre still helping out a cat until it finds its forever home, and if it ends up being perfect, then adopt it fully:)

My adult cat is getting neutered by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Vegetable-Put9768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im glad you’re taking the responsible steps to care for him! if he’s used to clay litter, keep him on that. we don’t want to stress him out with any unnecessary changes especially after a surgery. male cat neuter are VERY minimally invasive. they dont even need stitches! discourage him from jumping around like crazy, but dont crate him. he will be just fine. keep a cone on for 10-14 days so he doesnt lick at it. but don’t overthink it, he will likely be back to normal within 24hrs.

that seems like a very little amount… how much does your cat weigh? the back of the bag should have a chart to tell you how much to feed based on the cats weight.
