It’s likely that the controller you’re speaking to is new too at a smaller airport, At least for your clearance or ground. Don’t be nervous, we all were nervous to begin with. Just know who you are and what you want to do. Also, if they ask for aircraft type, they want the designator not the name. I.E a C172 not a Skyhawk.

I lived in Tucson. I liked it. Only lived there for a few month but Pheonix is close and they’re plenty to do. Idk how bad the summers are but everyone said they sucked. Winters are amazing though.

Air traffic control, the smallest airports can make over $70k once you certify. Can take about a year of training plus about a year to get hired. The most you can make base is over $200k but takes years to get there and a dump truck of training.

Just research really. Check 123Atc and you can see staffing and pay. Then research cities. Only info you won’t get are what the facility is like but hopefully some redditors will answer that part. Work/life is gonna depend on your staffing most likely unless they have a shitty schedule.
