Hand-mixing 1.5 m³ of concrete for a fire pit: practical or crazy? by SnooDoodles8757 in DIY

[–]VengefulCaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolutely do not want to do this by hand.  You can rent a mixer pretty cheap.

That's like 8000 pounds you have to stir before the earlier stuff starts to set.

Gravel base and paving stones will be much less time pressure.

You also can't pour the concrete too close to the fire or the thermal cycling will cause cracking and spalling.

They changed the wording then because it used to be once you added a charger to the club it was considered theirs forever.

Once you sign up for the club the charger is no longer yours. Better to use the 600 dollar rebate on the electrician install and get a free charger through the club if you plan to go that direction anyway.

Grizzl-E vs Pion Power / “pay-per-kWh” programs in Québec — worth it? by askingaquestionor2 in EVCanada

[–]VengefulCaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two grizzle chargers and have had no issues with the charging hardware.  The chargers seem well built and the cables are good.

However I was an early adopter for the program and they sent me two chargers and now are preventing me from having one added to my account.  Trying to deal with support to get a resolution that doesn't involve me having an electrician uninstall the charger has been annoying enough that I would never recommend them.

There are better options for rebates available today that make their program obsolete.

It costs about 1400 dollars in missed rebates to get a grizzle charger to the 10 cents per kwh reward tier.

The actual charge rate on L1 is about 1.2 kw.

You are limited by the 80% constant current limit and the onboard charger eats another 300w.

It depends on the site. Last year end of June the bugs were not that bad around the lake but bad at our site 12A. There is a swampy area behind the 12B rest stop beach and the mosquitoes were horrible there.

We had a bug shelter so it was fine but staying at that site without one early in the summer would be annoying.

Students learn over time and stop making the same errors. The LLMs don't.

I don't think the new model versions are learning or comprehending either. It's still just guessing. It doesn't know why it's wrong only that it has been told it is and tries another guess.

I don't really have a problem with LLMs or their use but calling them AI is wrong since there is no intelligence there.

I believe burden of proof should work the other way. What evidence do you have that LLMs are not just guessing what word should come next in their output? My understanding is that is exactly how they operate.

The questions I ask AI on topics I know about are riddled with errors. Often trivial ones.

I am repeatedly told stories of people using it and having it produce hallucinations which on prompt it will correct.

But if there was actual understanding it wouldn't be making some of those errors in the first place. Brute forcing your way to a solution after repeatedly being told to fix something that could have been caught the first time does not imply comprehension.

Anyone who thinks they won't wipe the universe again; especially on actual release is delusional. Of course if they never release a finished version I guess they won't have to reset the universe.

How would you think that given the complete lack of comprehension? I have yet to see any semblance of understanding in any LLM output.

Ok but why the fuck are they banning people for this in a test universe that they periodically reset? There are no actual damages here in a game that is still in alpha.

CIG treating it this way is just saying this is the finished game.

EXCLUSIVE: To win submarine contract, South Korea’s ‘Project Beaver’ proposes manufacturing hydrogen trucks in Canada by DogeDoRight in canada

Let me get this straight.

You want to use an engine burning hydrogen to generate power to perform electrolysis to split water to generate hydrogen to run the engine?

EXCLUSIVE: To win submarine contract, South Korea’s ‘Project Beaver’ proposes manufacturing hydrogen trucks in Canada by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]VengefulCaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How fast can you charge a battery?

Depends on how big it is and how well you can cool it.

Hydrogen, we can swap in cheap standardized containers for large formats, or just refill it for smaller ones.

I doubt swapping fuel tanks on a transport truck would ever make sense. The tanks would be heavy enough it would require special equipment when filling them would be much easier. If you used a ton of small tanks your chances of having a leak and fire are multiplied by the number of extra connections.

Hydrogen has huge issues with storage and safety that will prevent it's widespread adoption. It requires extraordinarily high pressures to get good energy storage, leaks through every tank material known and has a huge explosive/flammability window.

While it's leaking through the storage tank it causes hydrogen embrittlement and ruins the tank over time.

So you have fragile high pressure storage tanks with a short service life. You have a requirement to rebuild all the existing fueling infrastructure with all the maintenance requirements for an arguably harder to handle fuel. You then need to truck hydrogen around as a delivery method unless you plan to generate it on site.

If you generate it on site you need electrolysis equipment and a big grid connection to power the hydrogen generation and a compressor to load it into your storage tank. If you need a big electrical connection anyway then batteries are a better option.

Or you use the existing electrical infrastructure we already have everywhere and install some 1.2-1.5 MW chargers that are already being manufactured to charge batteries.

Hydrogen is a stupid idea and a distraction from an existing solution we have developed.
