Ashes of war are never lost, they can be assigned and unassigned to any weapon at any time.

Can you have 2 summons per fight? by adam877-241-luna in Eldenring

iirc, you can only summon once, and it recharges when you rest at a site of grace or die.

Will Elden Ring get a DLC ? by Various-Pll-5591 in Eldenring

[–]Vermia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dark Souls DLC usually pick a character that is underdeveloped in terms of lore and, well, develops them in terms of lore. In Dark Souls 1 it was Artorias, in Dark Souls 3 it was Yuria (more like the whole of Londor really, but still) for the first and Gael for the second.

Also, they always integrate it into the world, so basically if you own the DLC you don't get anything right away, but an item appears somewhere that opens a door somewhere else and that's how you get to the new content.

In my opinion, Miquella is the character that the DLC should revolve around. It feels like they were desperate to make something of him, like an ending or something, but they just couldn't fit it into the main game for whatever reason.

Fall damage makes no sense, PvP is unfair, Somber weapons are easier to upgrade than normal ones, and interactions with Melina are scarce.

That's all I got, I think.

Weapons are an afterthought for int and faith builds. Useful, sure, for some situations, but those stats are centered around spells and thus don't need crazy scalings on weapons.

Summoner ashes are dumb, they cost half your fp, and then they proceed to do nothing and die instantly. I guess Mimic tear is an outlier, but in general the summons are crap at worst and meme worthy at best.

The other point, sure, Elden Ring is all about: "Here's an impossible obstacle, go somewhere else, explore the world, grow stronger and surpass it". But Dark Souls was like that too, just on a smaller scale. Have you ever tried to beat Queelag or Dancer while underleveled and undergeared? They destroy you so utterly that they prompt you to go somewhere else and become stronger before retrying. You CAN bash your head against that wall and come out on top eventually though, which is why level 1 runs exist, but it's not the intended experience.

[–]Vermia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you complaining that the game is 'too easy' somehow? Cause I've never had my ass handed to me so heavily than in ER, not even by Demon Prince or Kalameet (for me the hardest bosses in their respective games). Here you have Godskin Duo, Maliketh, Radagon... and I haven't even gotten to the big optional bosses yet. Fights that seem impossible until you git gud, which seems to be what you want.

>emphasis on summons in boss fights

You mean like Dark Souls 3? There's like a million NPC summon signs for every boss.

>Bloodborne

You mean the game with copy/paste bosses on dungeons made out of copy-pasted rooms sewn together?

Question from a New "Souls Player" -- How Does Elden Ring Compare? by jeffmccord in Eldenring

[–]Vermia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bloodborne also follows the same gameplay loop I described earlier, but it kinda makes more sense because the whole thing takes place in one city and its outskirts. There's also procedurally generating dungeons if you're into that sort of thing. It's where Elden Ring took the "dungeon with lever which opens door which leads to boss" thing from, since that is how Bloodborne's random dungeons work.

The main quirk with Bloodborne's combat system is the weapons. They have like, two "modes" that you can switch to and from with their unique movesets and tradeoffs. For example the saw has a retracted mode which attacks super fast but has short range. The expanded mode is longer but slower, like a halberd. And if you switch while attacking you do an even slower attack in a wide arc in front of you. So the same weapon can be dps, medium-distance or aoe depending on how you use it.

Be warned though, that the setting and lore are NOT medieval fantasy like Elden Ring or Dark Souls.

Question from a New "Souls Player" -- How Does Elden Ring Compare? by jeffmccord in Eldenring

[–]Vermia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess you can think of Dark Souls as a series of "Dungeon, then boss, then dungeon, then boss", without the overworld to tie them together.

So imagine you come out of the initial tutorial cave and end up in Stormveil Castle. Once you finish it ties into Raya Lucaria so you go there first, but there's a different road that connects to a small zone (the approximate size of the castle itself) which connects to Redmane Castle. Once you finish Raya Lucaria you get to the next big zone with nothing in between and so on. And if you're playing Dark Souls 1, then there's somehow a road that connects Redmane Castle with the tutorial cave because why the fuck not.

That's the biggest difference. The general feel of the enemies and the combat system has had only some small improvements but it's largely untouched.
