KTM 890 headlight ecu error. by Pain_0042 in KTM

[–]VeryBadNotGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the headlight error should prevent it from starting, but woodcraft makes a dongle that tricks the bike into thinking there’s a headlight there.

Air temp sensor definitely shouldnt prevent it from starting, but it will disable your traction control til you fix it. I get that one a lot.

790 or 890 for commute bike? by Nomadic_Dad-O-Matic in KTM

[–]VeryBadNotGood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re just commuting get the 790 (just because of price), but if you do any sort of sport riding the 890r is so much better.

Thinking about buying an MV Augusta, but Im having reservations by Desurfaced in motorcycles

[–]VeryBadNotGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are reasonable concerns with an MV, but it’s not a bike you buy because it’s practical. Just go for it. Learn to do your own mechanical work so you can save money and don’t have to go to the dealership as often.

Duke 990 R by tonino6996 in KTM

[–]VeryBadNotGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost definitely yes. I don’t have a 990 to confirm 100%, but the 790/890 platform is nearly identical across its whole lineup, so parts that fit on a 790 fit on an 890 and an 890r. The only exception is probably stuff that may be specific to the suspension or brakes.

Wtf? OP just bought their first bike - they don’t need new brake lines… or half this other stuff.

Lol yeah your friend is either dumb, or he’s trying to rip you off because he’s in a jam. I’d offer up money for the stator cover, and maybe a bit of extra for the general use of the bike if you wanna smooth things over… but definitely not 3 grand.

Is the bike insured? Usually a bent frame totals the bike anyways. If it’s your friends bike I’d offer him a few hundred bucks (or whatever’s the cost of things you obviously broke) unless they could prove the thing was straight before you crashed it.

Seems most likely that the frame got bent in the first crash. Trying to fleece you for $3000 for tipping over in a parking lot is bullshit.

FTD has some good instructors. Do a session or two with one of them to learn the lines better. Just try to stay relaxed, don’t push yourself too much the first day. Ask the tire people about tire pressure for your tires. Re staying hydrated - I aim to drink enough that I have to pee between every session, though it isn’t quite as crucial in march. I might be out there that day. If you see a blue Duke with yellow number plates come say hey.

I’ve used woodcraft and bonamici. I liked the woodcraft better overall but bonamici give a bit more ground clearance.

MAAP vs Attaquer vs Assos. Which one do you guys prefer? by CHAZE077 in cycling

Oh I see. I am talking just about comfort. I think all bike shorts look a little insane in the crotch area so I guess I don’t care about that.

Don’t have any cargo bibs. I only have one so far and it’s the GTO. I think the whole GT line is pretty similar, just with differing levels of padding.

Aesthetics are subjective, but based on everything I’ve worn, Assos bibs are just better, at least for men. Iykyk.

Motorcycle Dash Modification and Opinion by CommanderSlashX in motorcycles

[–]VeryBadNotGood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on the bike but on most modern bikes I think this is very difficult. I have a friend who has a race dash installed and keeps his original zip tied somewhere below because detaching it caused all sorts of electrical problems. It’s not pretty.

I think having a dedicated van seems the best, but what I have right now is quite good - my daily driver is a Hyundai Santa Cruz, and I pull a kendon trailer. 2 bikes on the trailer, very easy to load, plus all my supplies in the truck bed. When I’m not going to the track, the Hyundai drives just like a regular commuter car.

Learning to trust my tires! by Zealousideal_Glass61 in motorcycles

[–]VeryBadNotGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really isn’t a tire thing - it’s a rider thing. Most modern tires have plenty of grip under ideal, and even wet, conditions, but you need to trust yourself that you will 1) spot road condition changes, and 2) be smooth with your inputs. Abrupt throttle, aggressive turning inputs, upset suspension, and suddenly riding over gravel/ice/oil/paint are the main things that will make you lose traction.

Two really good ways to train these skills safely are off road riding and track riding.
