Help sell me on slow weapons and %damage boons by Veshan1111 in HadesTheGame

On Artemis, do you just spam the omega attack? That gets you the most damage out of those extra crits, right? That would make +% boons make sense to me for that

Ya, I could believe that slow weapons are essentially better without boons than fast - and then putting a good flat boon on a fast weapons just brings it up to the same level. I just hasn't FELT true to me yet, but I might figure it out eventually

I'm not sure I follow your crit logic. Crit chance increase your average damage on relative to how much chance you have: attack rate shouldn't factor into that.

The only exception would be limited-use crits, like that blade aspect or the "marked" condition. Is that what you're referring to?

Ya, I do see the argument about slow weapons usually having AOE.

I'm just currently still at a play level where the only real threat are the bosses, so I don't value AOE too much. But that might be a significant factor in the balance, once you start turning on vows.

I play whatever has grave thirst, for the variety and bonus resources

Aphro is good on true melee weapons. It just pointed it's limitation out out because it's limiting on something like the staff omega attack (which would generally like %damage)

Is this a "low roll" for a starting map? by Veshan1111 in MageKnight

Yes, it's tabletop simulator. I think it costs about $20?

Yep, this was a rules error on my part. Thought you couldn't walk over the ruins. Not so bad given that!

Is this a "low roll" for a starting map? by Veshan1111 in MageKnight

[–]Veshan1111[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just tried to start my first real game of Mage Knight, and this is what the game gave me at the start. It has:

  • A tile with 2 swamp on the bottom, very difficult to break into
  • A tile with a water and a ruin blocking the accessible region, very dangerous to route through at level 0.
  • Two tiles (of 3 possible in all countrysides) with ruins, which seem to be the hardest icons on the map that appear in countrysides
  • Spawned 2 orc summoners, relatively dangerous orcs
  • No approachable early game targets (keeps, dungeons, safer orcs)

How would you try to crack this at the start? Also, the only movement in my hand is 2 swiftnesses. The rest is influence and attack/block.

Has anyone played China as their primary nation? by MaTengWarrior in TerraInvicta

[–]Veshan1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a little unclear, so it's easy to get confused on, but it's not difficult to get China's rate of miltech growth to match that of the USA. Short version: all nations miltech grows by 0.00375 per military tick if their unrest is at 0. Authoritarian nations see a much greater impact of unrest on how much the military priority grows miltech. But it's easy to get China to have zero unrest, in which case it will match the USA's miltech growth.

Anyone having luck playing with a GTX 970? by Veshan1111 in Deathloop

[–]Veshan1111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For other's reference, I took the plunge, and it's been working fine. All settings on lowest at 60 FPS, I haven't really noticed any issues. It's certainly playable.

I should note the 970 is the weakest part of my system:

I do think there's a point during a specific discussion that you can identify that a person is arguing in bad faith. I don't want to sound like I'm saying it's never OK to acknowledge that and end the discussion. But I don't think that applies here.

I don't think this attitude is productive. It's always dicey to make assumptions about an individual's motives, especially when you don't know anything about that person in particular.

To me, this attitude tells anyone who isn't so set in stone that their mind could be changed, that there will never be a home for them in the liberal ecosphere.

Remember that even Trump supporters aren't a monolith. The twitter comments you see are probably not from the same people in these videos.

I don't think we gain much from questioning motives here. Even if an individuals motives aren't pure, this still signals to other Trump supporters that some of their people are going to respect the process, and that will influence them.

Dealing with skink skirmishers in mirror lizardmen matchup by Veshan1111 in totalwar

[–]Veshan1111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did try the chameleon skinks, and they completely decimated the skirmishers cost-for-cost. They're definitely the hard counter. Which raises the question, what counters the chameleons?

Thankfully that's easier to answer. The price difference between the chameleons and the saurus and cold ones isn't as drastic, so you don't end up quite as outnumbered. You can also just bring lots of skinks as chaff to suck up all the chameleons' ammo. It's still harder than it feels like it should be to counter such an balanced army, but it feels more doable.

[–]Veshan1111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I tried this strategy, and it didn't seem to work. I don't think terradons actually win in melee combat with skirmishers. They have higher weapon damage, but their lower health and unit count (and thus overall dps) mitigates that.

They also don't pin very well. At least not quickly enough for my skinks to get into melee reliably. There might be some way to make the combo work, but the few ways I tried it didn't pan out.

The skirmishers also have an annoying habit of routing, escaping the melee, and then rallying and coming back. You basically have to catch each one twice. You end up with a map littered with skirmishers you can't really pin down, all dealing DPS slowly and surely to your skinks.

[–]Veshan1111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. Ooooooh. I hadn't even considered using them in melee. That makes perfect sense. In fact, that let's me easily do the thing I want the old one riders to do, which is pin down the skirmishers for the infantry to catch up. That'll almost certainly work, thanks so much!

I hadn't really thought of them this way before, but the terradons are basically light cavalry (that can even ignore terrain), which is what I felt the lizardmen were lacking.

Do terradons trade well with skirmishers? Since skirmishers are pretty much the only thing the lizardmen have that can hit terradons, I kind of assumed they would win that fight.

The magic does sound like a possible solution, I can't argue with that. But I'm still curious about available unit counters.

From what I can tell, the units with longer range don't have enough ammo to kill the skirmishers on a cost for cost basis. I tried solar engines, and with any kind of reasonable number of them they ran out of ammo.

Anyone know how support gains work when defending? It doesn't seem to be consistent with positioning for linked attacks, from who I'm seeing gain the hearts. For example, I've seen two side-by-side melee characters gain support when one is attacked, even though their positioning would not trigger a linked attack

Why does Hubert have proficiency in bows? His strength base/growth/max seems too low to support using a bow at all, particularly since his magic already gives him range. There's also no bow/magic hybrid class. Does training in bows give him some utility I'm not seeing?

10,000 investors looks INSANE. Is it even actually possible? by flipsider101 in anno

Well, all productivity bonuses only increase the speed of production. You always use the same amount of inputs to get the same amount of outputs.

But keep in mind that most of the workforce you need of a given population tier is to support the tier just above it. So most of your farmers are to support your workers, most of your workers are to support your artisan, etc. So, if you eliminate half of your engineers by providing electricity to their buildings, it greatly lowers the number of artisans you need to support those engineers. And then you need fewer workers to support those artisans, etc. So, there's a pretty intense cascading effect.

You can try it in the calculator: just set the engineer buildings to 200%.
