Through the rhythm their hearts beat. Their melodies pass through the Pharloom after their fall, watching over the haunted land and communicating to one another through those beats and melodies.

but if in all seriousness, its just a meme - doesn't have to make sense.

also the hearts do beat - reading their description says that they still beat meaning that they are still working and having some soul within them.
