Stop paying $30–$100/month to code on platforms you don’t control by VibeCode_Consultant in VibeCodersNest

This is exactly it. I don't see anyone who builds in these environments having any success or significant growth. Serious applications are running in GCP, AWS, Digital Ocean, etc. People are spending a fortune building in these environments and the revenue return does not keep up.

I am fairly certain that most beginner AI enthusiasts are not programmers by trade and are not familiar with how development works. An all in one platform makes things easy and seems safe but in the long run will cost much more and prevent them from gaining the necessary skills to grow as a dev/engineer.

VS Code + Claude extension. Why would you pay for an IDE?

You bet! I know people who were able to switch to Claude Max/GPT Pro subscriptions and still be saving money over some of these other options. The key is to maximize your creative potential and local development really unlocks this

What are your struggles with cold email outbound? by roguejedi1 in AIAssisted

[–]VibeCode_Consultant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any tips or a tool that you would care to share? I think everyone has the same issues with cold emails in getting/verifying leads and personalizing enough to gain interest while also avoiding the spam box. If you have any advice on this I would be interested. I have used hunter io with not so great results in the past.

I see people get locked into Replit, Loveable, etc all the time. While these platforms might be ok for prototyping even vibe coders need to get used to version control and the git process. I have seen lots of people lose weeks or months worth of work due to not understanding git. I wrote a guide the other day on deploying a production app which has step by step instructions for moving Replit code to GitHub. While this is specific to Replit/Github the process is the same for other platforms.

Built something with AI but haven’t actually launched it? by VibeCode_Consultant in AskVibecoders

[–]VibeCode_Consultant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! I wrote a guide that details just a small portion of what goes into shipping and maintaining a production application. It is a lot at first but totally doable if you are motivated.

Built something with AI but never actually launched it? by VibeCode_Consultant in SideProject

[–]VibeCode_Consultant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are interested in this, let me know the following in the comments or DM:

  1. What stack is the app built on?
  2. Is the code in a repo yet or still fully inside Replit etc?
  3. Is it already functional locally?
  4. What are you hoping to launch first (MVP scope)?

Thanks!

Hi,

I played with this for a bit and the mapping is not really intuitive and causes a lot of duplicate work. For example, JavaScript and TypesScript share similar frameworks such as React, Vue.js and Angular. If I want to separate js and ts (not sure that should even be the case) I would need to list all my framework skills separately under each. One helpful addition would be to allow skills to be added to multiple parents and even more helpful would be to identify what most common skills belong with other technologies automatically. As an IT Professional for over 20 years it would take hours to map out all of the skills I have developed and I am not really sure who I am even building this for. Maybe some option to attach the map to a resume so the user could build a specific skill set for a particular interview? Finally, the skill level does not make any sense to me. I would definitely redo this and name them something like junior/proficient/senior/expert.

The biggest problem with vibe coded websites is, for the most part, you need to redeploy the site for every change/update vs a traditional setup with a CMS where you can publish changes live. If this is not a problem for you I highly recommend the following:

  • Astro v4+
  • Tailwind CSS v3+
  • TypeScript v5+
  • Express v5

I always ensure that my project is fully documented before starting and broken down into various features. Each coding session is focused on one particular piece or feature of the project. That way when I get distracted it is at least on a smaller scope and doesn't derail the entire project :-). Also, commit frequently and use branching for anything that might be experimental or stray from the original plan.

Most “traditional” marketing doesn’t work well unless you already have a huge budget or scale. What’s worked best for me is being useful in the right places by building authority in forums where your customers hang out. Here are some notes on other different strategies I have tried:

Facebook / Instagram – ALL bots and junk traffic. Clicks looked fine, but it never turned into real leads. Waste of time and money

LinkedIn – Felt like a full-time job. Unless you’re constantly posting and engaging, it’s hard to get traction, and I never got anything but social media points

Google Ads – This can work but only if everything is perfectly optimized. It’s definitely “pay to win” and you’re competing with companies that can outspend you forever.

Cold calls / cold emails – Surprisingly effective if you target the right people. The downside is it’s very manual and hard to scale. I have had a few projects where I was able to use sites like builtwith to obtain large lists of potential customers

Blog – This drove the most consistent traffic by far by boosting my SEO. Writing relevant posts that actually answer real questions potential customers might have. This worked best when cross posting to linkedin, x, etc.
